Structure & info required for work references

Hey all,

Has anyone got any advice and information they could show we me regarding putting together work references for SC176.

Any advice would be great!

hello mel, unless your a bricky( i doubt it!) i cant help you much, but what i can say is that my agent was allways at pains to point out that they are "not" references( his words), you dont want....mel is a nice girl,sociable,allways on time etc. for instance mine ( adapt to your job) were my exact duties as a bricklayer,i.e materials used, stonework, blockwork using 100 mm block, face brickwork ,type of jointing, type of pointing, in other words details of tasks completed and details, and more details!. signed by someone and including that persons position in the company( in my case a contracts manager or director). as i said not much help but im sure you get the gist of what they want. maybe someone in your trade will help you a bit more mel. anyway good luck with it all

Thanks for your advice, I understand what you mean. Did you write your own reference and then get your manager to sign off on it. Do you know roughly how long it should be etc?

Hi, have you already submitted your ACS assessment? My OH went off today, let me know if you still need help with this bit as our agent PTLabs has been great.

Thanks Julie, mine is currently being done through VETASSESS, they must be in the processing of assessing as I noticed the money has been taken from my credit card lol.

I'm trying to see if I can now work out how to put the rest of my application together without an agent.

Hi, I am not sure re Vetasess if you have to do references the same as ACS but if the job title, exact dates and work detail are on I think you just send these again with the actual visa app together with the other detail - i.e. your skills assessment pass confirmation. Are you on a relative sponsored visa app?

hey, im not sure either lol - just researching all the info required at moment. Yeah i'm planning on applying for that, currently on a 457 though.

hiya mel, the thing with me is that i worked for sub contract bricklaying companys , some of them basically just couldnt be arsed typing statements out, so my partner e mailed them the statements and they just cut and pasted ( i think thats the right lingo!) the company letterhead on to them, other companys sent us letterheaded paper and we typed out my duties etc and sent it back to them for signature and approval. i dealt with builders, who it must be said arent lovers of computers and typing generally. im sure you will find it much easier getting a response from former employers. mine were signed by contracts managers, directors etc but they had to sign and state their company position and start off the statement with my full name. mine was a 136 at the time, i believe its 175 now. the whole thing for us took approx 15 months( due to delays getting statements!)good luck mel

Yeah I can imagine that being bit of a nightmare. Fortunately I only need to get one reference, as where i've been working for the past 1.5 year in Australia the company is actually sponsoring me directly. I think it would be a bit hit and miss get references for the past 3-4 years as I did a lot of temping work beforehand.

I'm going to put together the reference at the weekend, i've printed out the job description from the ASCO and the information from DIMIA website so going to be creative lol!

your up early arent you?! yeah, thought it would be easier for you mel, and it sounds like your more or less "in" anyway, hope you make it mate, and im sure you will
