Problem with Reference - Please Help

Hi

Can anyone help? My husband has a reference from his first employer that he did his apprenticeship with. He lives in Lanzarote! He faxed over the signed reference. OUr emmigration agent says this is not good enough, it has to be original!!! We have contacted old employer, but will not send one!!!
What more can we do!! Stressed!!!!

Hiya

Could you not send a stamped addressed envelope and ask your former employer to put the original in that? Explain to him the importance of it being the original? Print off the section from the visa application where they ask for original copies?

Alternatively, would your Agent accept a Statutory Declaration from you explaining that the reference is genuine, but that your Employer has refused to provide the original? If you want, I can provide the wording for a stat dec. We did that for one letter we provided (discharge from the Army) where we couldn't get the original. Don't worry - you can find a way around most things.
Good Luck
Tracy

Hiya
As follows:
(Date here)
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
STATUTORY DECLARATION FOR ( Give reason for making the stat dec - eg not providing original reference)

I, ( insert name and full address) do solemnly and sincerely declare that the following statement is truthful:
(EXPLAIN HERE WHY YOU CANNOT PROVIDE THE ORIGINAL AND CONFIRM THAT THE COPY IS GENUINE ETC. )

I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and by virtue of the Statutory Declarations Act 1835.

Then sign below in front of a Solicitor or Commissioner for oaths.

Hope that helps. We had to pay a Solicitor to write this out and then pay another solicitor in another office to certify it, as our application was online!

Tracy
