could i qualify

ok i've calmed down and taken a few deep breathes, unfortunately the house situation doesn't seem to look good for us so i'm desperately trying to find other ways in to Oz and may have an idea, whether it'd do-able or not is another thing so any advice would be gratefully recieved
i currently hold a certificate AAT Accounts this on its own isn't really worth much but is a pathway to me doing another AAT which is equal to an NVQ 3 and from there i can do another AAT which is a diploma each course is 240 hrs study time although not at college but by home learning and i have already gained 240 hrs from my first AAT which gives me a total of 720 hrs i could then add on another course to make up my hours to 900 and accountant is on the SOL and MODL

Is home learning counted as study time ?

I currently don't work in accounts, I work in purchase ledger and have done for last 2 years, before that i've done everything from sales ledger, payroll, finance assistant etc, so do i have to work as an accountant to qualify ?

This may completely be just me clutching at straws but hey-ho worth a try right !!!

Thanks xx

Don't be too sure Vetassess will recognise an NVQ equivallency

Hi there,

I'd definately talk to an agent whse experinced in the qualifications /skills side of things. I have a diploma which OCR say is equivallent to an NVQ4 - so yu would think no prob it should be equivallent to at least an AQF3. However, after 3 months + Vetassess decided it was worth nothing - despite a lettr stating the equivallency had been verifie by OCR and another extrnal verifi. Sorry if this doesn't sound encouraging but I hate you t think you have it bagged whn perhaps Vetasses or a similiar body may think otherwise.

I really wish you all the best and hope you have better luck than I had. Despite 19 years in IT my OH ended up with no points for me becaus of this. !!!

Let us know how you get on .

Only ACCA and Cima qualified accountants or people with an accounting degree can apply for a skills assessment as an accountant. The full AAT qualification alone isn't enough as it's only NVQ 4, not degree level. I know as I am fully qualified AAT and have worked as an accountant for 20 years and still cannot apply using my skills. The AAT qualification may be able to get you a positive assessment from Vetassess as an office manager which is worth 40 points but then there's the issue of experience in that skill.

Hi all
Thanks for the replies i've looked into it more and it does seem i would need a bachelors degree or higher to qualify and thanks SOMV i'm in the process of making my C.V a bit more Aussified in the hope of maybe getting sponsorship but will e-mail it you when done (couple of days) as that would be great if you could have a look but it looks like i might have to find some other way of getting in although doesn't look hopeful at the moment xx

Hello, I'm just starting to look at the same thing - I would be retraining though - did you find that you would need to have a degree or are ACCA or Cima qualifcation acceptable in their own right?

Hope things are going well and you've found a way in.
