Hi Chris,

Sounds like you had a good nite!

I used HIFX when I left the UK 2.5 years ago and I actually went to their offices in Windsor as it was close by and they were absolutely FANTASTIC, really cant fault them at all, they can even assist with setting up an Oz bank account from over there (the form is in with the forms they give you) so once the transfer is done and you are here you just go to the bank with your ID and can access your account(s), totally seamless!
I have used them since I've been here and dealt with their Sydney office and they are just as helpful. I was panic-striken about transferring the proceeds from the house sale and my savings into what my paranoid mind felt was oblivion, but it really was painless.

All the best with the move!
Dawn

Hi Chris,

I have been using them for paying all the fees so far & was planning on using them when we move everything across. They have been fab so far so I don t see much point in moving to a new company. Their fees seem similar to all the others & I haven't had a hard sell from them, which is just as well coz I hate that & it would send me running.

Good luck

We used HiFx.

They helped us set up a bank account with the Commonwealth adn we transferred the money to HiFx form our account, faxing through the details, and I rang to check they had received everything. They read out all the details. Six days later we left the UK, and almost 2 weeks after we sent the money to HiFx we went to the Commonwealth to activate our account and collect our cards etc. Only to find that HiFx had NOT sent our money. It took 2 days to find out which finiancial institution had it. HiFx denied ever receiving the fax and it took almost another 2 weeks to get it in our account. We lost interest, spent a fortune in phone calls, couldn't proceed with anything that would have got us sorted a bit earlier.

According to our bank, it wasn't the first time it has happened with HiFx and it won't be the last.

I don't have an opinion either way really. I won't be using them again but all my money is in Aus now so there is nothing to change anymore.

Just had another thought after reading Libby's post. When I went out to Oz last time I opened an account at the National Bank while I was still in the UK. It was dead easy. Then sent a cheque from my uk account to National Bank in London & job done. They sent me a letter to produce with my id in Australia & it wa all waiting for me.
Depending on how complicated your finances are this could be an option for you

I transferred my house proceeds in two lots using Hifix. Both times they advised me it was probably not wise to wait for exchange rate to improve, and now the rate has really improved so i have lost quite a bit. Also I had a few blips with them not answering emails, and giving the wrong fax number (they said the fax machine I sent a message to was in a cupboard!!) However, these things happen, and I am thinking of using them again to make regular payments of my pension when I get to Sydney.
Good luck.

Hifx

I used them to send some money to the new bank account I set up for my husband. I opened the account with Westpac, used my debit card to exchange the money. They gave me a good exchange rate.

It's really straight forward. If you open an account with Westpac they don't charge for accepting the money. It's not alot, about £8 i think for every transaction, but that's £8 I have and not the bank.

Good luck in choosing which company to use. For me that was the hard part.

We have used Hifx for all our transfers so far and they have been first class.

We set up a bank account in Oz with Westpac via the internet. Really easy and painless.
