electrician vetassess october

Hi there i know there were a few posts about a week or so ago about the electrician vetassess practical. At the time i didnt think we were going to make the october one but agent has said fingers crossed, hopefully if stage one goes through soon we should be able to book in for octobers! ahhhh

So now we are asking for any help/advice that any of you can give us.

We really want to know;

Is there any written parts, or is this all completly a practical exam.

If there is a written exam do you need to study?

And what does the practical involve, again are there certains parts that are worth studying for?

We really appreciate all the feedback possible

xx

Hi Beveley, there is a tyavel lodge near wembley for accommodation which by all accounts is the closest and cheapest to the college. Your fella should revise up on ohms law calcs, resistors in series, parallel etc.. There is nothing on regulations simply all equations. Things like how many amps for 3 cookers each being 12kw etc, Peak to peak values etc.

One thing that catches alot of people out is the DOL starter... He must learn how to wire one of these with remote stop and start and then wire to a 3 phase supply senario, otherwise its a fail... He will need to test a tube heater for insulation resitance, continuty and do a safe disconnect prior... They are keen on the safe disconnect and your method has to be written as well as carried out.. Isolate power supply, test to ensure system is dead, then test your tester etc...
Another task is to wire a simple circuit in a college booth, two way light and socket outlet, and a bond a bit of pipe. This is a doddle! Do not worry about measurements, ie spacing of clips, perfect inline boxes etc as they not check, they just check it works and that the test readings are correct.. To be honest if i can pass it im sure any other spark can! I found that i was really nervous when actually its a very relaxed day and the assessors are a pair of good guys.. Take a packed lunch and fluids...
All tools aere provided but i took my own and my own tester...

If you have any more questions please just ask...

Best of luck

Hi Chilli,

you need to apply to vetasses, pass the paper application then be recommended to take the practical... You dont just simply book it im afraid..
