176 visa - sponsored by state or sister in law?
hi all
i only have 110/115 points at a push for a 175 visa, so am looking for at the 176 visa.
i love living in bris vegas, but would move to another area in qld, or move to WA if needed to get a 176 visa, i am a qualified TAFE Teacher, but neither state has it on their SOL list, so was going to ask what can i do? can i just email the state directly and ask them to nominate me?
or i could ask my sister in law (through my interdependent partner) so sponsor me, as she and her husband hove lived in oz for more than 5 years on perm visa and are citizens.
before i ask here i wanted to ask what is required of her, it says online she only needs to help us finiancially if we fall into difficulty.
but to be honest, we have lived here for 7mths, i have worked full time while supporting her sister (my parnter) through cancer diagnosis, treatment and next her big op to remove (as was misdiagnosed twice in the uk) and we want to stay in oz and have managed tio support ourselves so far while we have been through hell and back, so really wouldnt ask for any help.
does she have to pay anything to the government, or simply sign a declaration saying she will help us out if this happens??
what are the timescales for applying for this visa?
or would you recomend that my partner (her sister apply for several student visas and complete a 3 or 4 year degree in radiotherapy diagnositcs (which is on the modl and sol) then apply????
please help as want to arrange asap
thank you in advance

Hi,
We were in a similar position re points and our agent advised that the preference should be for the relative sponsorship first. Apparently if it fails there is a right of appeal. Anyway I know each case is individual and therefore different so telling you about us isn't really much use. However, if you get the relative sponsorship there are no restrictions and as there are with the state sponsoship I guess it makes sense just on those grounds. Good luck and all the best for your wifes op.

Hello krestaf
Welcome to Poms in Oz.
If your sister in law sponsors you and your partner, she will be saying that if you and your partner fall on hard times during your first two years in Australia your sponsor will see to it that you are provided with adequate food, clothing, shelter and enough cash to get by on. The purpose of this is to prevent you from being eligible for Special Benefit during your first two years in Australia.
A - Z Directory
I'd say that this sponsorship on a 176 visa is probably the best option for you and your partner.
Best wishes
Gill
