i presume you are sending off to tra for puropses of skills assessment for visa?
i have a list of trades that are assessed by tra for ARTC certificates and "sheet metal worker first class" is one of the trades on there.
whether you have to have a certificate is another thing. i dont think there is any licensing requirements for sheet metal work so i wouldnt think you really need one. might be useful though and although its a pain filling in the application again did you know that there is no application fee if you have already been assessed by tra for a visa application?

What is the ARTC? My OH is also a sheet metal worker & when I was researching his trade I couldn't find anything about needing further certification in Oz? Any info you have would be appreciated?
Thanks
Kath

Hi Kath

As I understand it although Sheeties dont need licences in oz the TRA is not confirmation that you are a trademan and thats where the ARTC comes in ...apparently its just a case of filling in some forms when you arrive in oz.

We are just about to send off our TRA can I ask you what info youo sent and why it took two attemps...we are just wondering if we should appoint an agent or do it ourselves.
Thanks
Lynn

We did it ourselves! Had to do Stat Decs as his boss wouldn't co-operate & do a letter for us. First Stat Dec we detailed what he does currently, machinery he uses, techniques etc, but what the TRA need is detailed info on HOW he got trained, number of hours etc. He didn't do apprenticeship, (it was 15 years ago!), so we detailed his 'formal training'. IE names of people who trained him, on what, for how long, & got a couple of letters signed by colleagues who trained him, confirming what they'd done - plus a few certificates for formal training on new machinery they had (eg CNC punching machine, press brakes etc) it was a phaff, but we got there in the end!

if you want to apply for an artc then i wouldnt wait until you get to oz, you can apply from the uk either using a friend/relatives addess in oz for them to post cert to, or use uk address and they will keep hold of the cert untill you arrive in oz. its a lot easier to fill it in from over here in regards to getting evidence together etc.
