Hi, we are also thinking of Geelong. We find these sites useful:
Geelong Local News, Sport & National News - The Geelong Advertiser This is a local paper with links to jobs and housess
Intown Geelong - online entertainment, leisure, tourist & city guide
Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au

My OH is also an electrician. We are going for a visit in 4 weeks time so will report back on the Victoria forum.
Yvonne.

Hi

We stayed in Geelong earlier this year. I cannot comment about your jobs but I can tell you a little about Geelong.

It has a water front (guess we call it a prom) with harbour. At one end are a couple of swimming pools both life guard patrolled, and a small beach. At the other is the refinery plant. There is alot of heavy industry along the waterfront at the north end. The parking is free along the front. They have a big park. There is a shopping centre that was being updated when we were there.
The housing, there are alot of new builds going up on the outskirts, nearer the centre the houses are a little more dated. It is a good base for getting around, about 1 hour by train (very good service and on time) to Melbourne CBD. You are well positioned for The Great Ocean Road (about 30min away) and for Torqay, Barwon Heads,

Again about 45 min away inland are the You Yang and Brisbane Rangers ( we spotted our first wild Koala and Roos here) Werribee zoo.

Geelong wasn't for us, but for many on this site it is a really good base. We stayed in the suburb, Newcomb which was ok.

There seemed to be good access to schools both primary and senior I'm afraid I can't comment on how good they are as we were not looking for that at the time.

Yvonne has given some good sites for you to use. PM me if you would like me to email you some photos or details of where we stayed, I have to say the little place we had ws super and the woman couldn't have been more helpful, she has had alot of Brits rent her place until they found a longer rent.

best wishes

Michelle
