457 Visa

Hi

I start a new job on the 1st Oct 08 in Perth WA and i'm in the process of applying for a 457 temporary Visa.

How long does this process take as i need to be out to Australia ASAP?

Also when filling the visa application online can i submitt the application and send the medicals, Police checks later as it states that you don't need to attach the information initialy and you van attach as and when you get it?

Many thanks

Anthony

can be done in as little 4/5 weeks...medicals go to a governing body seperate to your application...no need for police checks.

just to clarify you need police checks for the 457 visa only if you have any previous convicions no matter how long ago you got them and how minor they may be-if you dont have any then you are fine not providing the police check- but if you do have previous convictions and later decide to go for a permanat visa you will have to provide a police check and if there is a discrepency ie you do have some when you claimed you did not for the 457 you will place yourself in a bit of a difficult position. Also re medicals you only need an xray unless working in a classroom or hospital whereby a full medical is asked for-good luck

How long do Xray's take to be accepted - do they need to accept the Xray medical before being granted a 457 Visa?

Hi yes they will need the xray before they grant visa - it didnt take long either for ours to be passed a word of warning though registered post can only be traced as far as the plane to oz so you may wish to consider a courier as some people have had theirs go astray.

all the best liz

Hi fellow yorkshire person! We used an agent which was provided by my employer-you may already have gathered from the DIAC site but there are 3 steps to getting the 457 visa, your firm has to have applied to sponsor people then they need to have the nomination of the post they wish to fill agredd then the employee can apply for the visa- if the first two steps are in place then from what I can see the application is relatively straight forward as long as you provide evidence up front- ie I needed to provide evidence of my relationship which we did by both of us providing personnal statements plus evidence of joint accounts mortgage and bills over some years, plus my qualifications which showed I had skills for the job and a CV etc. From what I can see if you provide all this up front the case officer can get back to you for more info -once it was lodged we were told to get our xrays which we got in Sheffield fro £75 -they took over 10 days to get there and then only a day to be passed by the case officer then it was another week or so before we got the visa although it seems others got their visa almost straight afterward the xrays were received! it was straight forward as processes go and the agent helped but we could do it ourselves as easily. if you do it on line you will get through it quickly. To ensure it flows smoothly consider using an agent there are two who are particlarly highly respected mentioned regularly on this site!
