Hi fellow yorkshire person! We used an agent which was provided by my employer-you may already have gathered from the DIAC site but there are 3 steps to getting the 457 visa, your firm has to have applied to sponsor people then they need to have the nomination of the post they wish to fill agredd then the employee can apply for the visa- if the first two steps are in place then from what I can see the application is relatively straight forward as long as you provide evidence up front- ie I needed to provide evidence of my relationship which we did by both of us providing personnal statements plus evidence of joint accounts mortgage and bills over some years, plus my qualifications which showed I had skills for the job and a CV etc. From what I can see if you provide all this up front the case officer can get back to you for more info -once it was lodged we were told to get our xrays which we got in Sheffield fro £75 -they took over 10 days to get there and then only a day to be passed by the case officer then it was another week or so before we got the visa although it seems others got their visa almost straight afterward the xrays were received! it was straight forward as processes go and the agent helped but we could do it ourselves as easily. if you do it on line you will get through it quickly. To ensure it flows smoothly consider using an agent there are two who are particlarly highly respected mentioned regularly on this site!
