Question Confused nurse!

Hi

Hoping that someone may be able to answer some questions for me. I am unable to come out on a skilled migration visa as I have been on mat leave for 9/12 months and prior to that have only worked 18 hours per week. I have just started a new job working 20 hours per week. I am considering coming out on a sponsored 457 visa but am unsure how to find sponsors.

I am predominently a community nurse but have other primary care experience. I know that I will have to work full time if I go on a sponsored visa.

My uk cousin lives in Melbourne and she is married to an australian so am ideally looking at Victoria.

I just don't know where to start and we don't want to hang on for the next 2 years for the skilled visa.

Advice please

Lynn

Hi, We are sort of in the same boat as you, just found out we cant come out on the independant skilled visa, as husband has no formal qualifications, I spoke to some agents, (Go Matilda and Thinking Australia) they both said have to try for Employere sponsored visa. Thinking Australia added that they help you find the job you need, so that you dont get the wrong sort of employer for your needs etc. They have loads of employers on their database who are looking for people like us. So I would talk to one of the above and see what they say

Hope that helps

HI Lynn,

my situation is nearly exactky the same as you - nurse not enough hours, mat leave etc etc.
We are looking at Melbourne also!

We are going out for a look in September. I am a bit put off by the full time work bit for 457as have 4 kids - 2 under 5.

We are looking at getting OH a 457 as first option and he has meetings set up for sept. Depending on how that goes I may apply for 457.

There is an'official nurses thread 'on here - check that out - lots of nurses in same situation. Also if you are sure Vic is where you are heading you need to register with VNB so you could get that bit done. I am not sure if you have to have a skills assessment done under 457 or if it's just the independant/state visas. If you do it is done by ANMC. Do it after you register with NVB as it is cheaper that way.
Good Luck - Catherine

google hospitals in victoria - and then contact the hopsitals directly to see if they offer sponsorship

Hi
Iam pretty much in the same situation but have been given different information I have been on mat leave since march this year prior to that I was working 16 hours per week which I had done since July 07 prior to that I worked 24 hours per week. My emigration agent has said that it goes off last five years work history ? and that I do qualify for a skilled visa now I am confused too

Question

Hi,

I was told by a migration agent that you must have worked at least 20 hours per week in 12 out of the last 24 months. Mat leave does not count at all.

They don't take into account that I have only been part time for 3 years and the 12 years prior to that I was full time! If they were looking at the last 5 years I would be ok.

If you look on the immigration websites it does say the 2 year thing too. Would you be able to check the 5 year thing and let me know?

Thanks

Lynn

I have checked they said that overall they look at your last 5 years so still saying this is right. But i worked 24 hours prior my mat leave and 16 hour post so I do meet the critera as most of my work experience has been either been fulltime or 24 hours.

sorry I hit wrong button. I do hope this helps you I realise what you are saying did you not work in excess of 20 hrs before your mat leave? You see I only dropped to 16 hours in september last year before that I worked 24 and before that 32 all in the same post with the same trust since July 2006 ( does that make sense to you) So agent stated this am that is how I meet the criteria
