Perth - dogs

Hi there

I am a Newby to this site - we have just sent off for our skills to be assessed - so it is all starting to become real to us. We were just wondering if anyone has / will be moving to Perth with their pets? We have 2 dogs and will bring them with us all being well and just wanted some piece of mind with regards to quarenteen etc.

I love this site - making me more exited to get out there - can't wait to leave all this behind

:-)

Hi, slightly different as we brought a cat, but she was fine at Byford Quarantine Centre (in perth). We did worry about her age - but she's had no problems at all. The one thing I would say is that because Byford isn't that big it gets booked up pretty quickly. When we enquired for Becky, the first available place was 4 months later .... so do book early. They allow you to visit your pets too and the staff were great. We used a company called Pets on the Move because they had a local franchise were we lived, they did all the paper work and picked her up and took her to the airport. Do a search of old threads about dogs ... because there is something to do with one of their boosters, which gives a result that means they can't fly (can't remember what that is sorry).

We brought 3 cats to perth and used Byford... and like ali.. no problems at all... very friendly staff... but it does get booked up so get your aperwork sorted ASAP.

The vaccination Ali was taking about... is very important to dogs as you have to make sure your dog does not have a particular one... so do check that out... as they will not let your dogs in if they test positive for it..

Hi there . Dont have your dog boosted for Leuptosprosis ( sorry about spelling) it will show up on the blood test and then you have to have further test . if it shows the same reading or less it is Ok ansd it happens to many dogs our 2 both had to have a 2nd test no worries though they came through OK. Give Andy a call at Pinehawk Kennels he is so helpful and told us what we needed , where to get it and when . He wasnt too expensive as a shipper and certainly knows his stuff. I had no worries with him taking the boys contacted other places but they didnt fill me with any confidence and it was more the dogs were $ . His phone no is 01223 290249
best wishes
Sally

Thank you Ali, Min and Sally this has been very helpful. Our dogs are so precious to us they are our babies - I can't understand those who say leave them behind (usually family memebers!) they wouldn't leave behind their kids - its kinda the same (isn't it or am I just being daft?)
Thanks again

No I dont think that you are daft. Colin says that I would have rather left him behind than the boys. !! thats not exactly correct he does all the cooking so he had to come. couldnt live on takeaways for ever!!! The boys are just like babies really they might be rough tough jack russells but not to me.

Sharon ... my hubby said of our cat Becky "we've had her longer than the kids" - pets become part of the family. Because of Becky's age (I alwasy get a bit confused but think she's 17 or 18 now), we did ask the advise of the vet, who gave her a 'geriatric work up'! (over £100), but declared her fit and healthy and no reason why we couldn't take her with us. The other big reason was that my daughter would have been inconsolable had we left her behind - and it was well worth the money as I'm sure it helped Alex in particular settle here.
