Until we get our aqf3 and pass the tra I have no idea if we will use an agent or not. I don't think we need to but might anyway just to take some pressure off. But I am sure after the skills assessment that it's the easier part.
If we don't use an agent I will basically get all my info from the immigration wesbite and also from the lovely bunch on this website! People apply all the time without an agent so it's possible.
We are in Hildenborough, so not that far away!

We didnt really want Canberra, we have relatives in Melbourne. Problem is that visa seems to be our only option. Have to admit getting fed up now, husband has so much experience and is a hard worker, does that count for nothing. One agent said he would need at least 8 years experience in a trade to be accepted for independant skilled visa? Maybe he will have to go down the straightforward banking route instead. He still has no qualifications to his name but has worked in banking for over 20 years now.

Dan is a dryliner which is called a fibrous plasterer in Australia. Fibrous plasterers and a few other trades are not assessed by Vetassess but by another organisation called TRA (Trades Recognition Australia). Even though Dan will pass with ACTS (we hope) he still has to then send his references and the AQF3 certificate to the TRA for them to pass him under the government guidelines. Basically we haven't even started the visa application process yet! We are just obtaining the AQF3 certificate first so that we can pass the first part which is the skills assessment. With that we can then apply for a visa.
Does that make sense?

Hi Anxious Mum, Firstly congratulations on passing your exam. Well done you. Also thats good news on the visa front, however, I have read on this site that it is difficult to obtain IT sponsership. Don't wish to pull down when you are very happy. Alan post provided some good advice, maybe you should still follow up what Go Matilda have to say on your situation.
On a plus side Thinking Australia do have 100% sucess rate, so they wouldn't take you on if they didn't think you would get a visa but still need to find that sponser.
Good Luck with it all

Hi There - We went to a Thinking Australia seminar in Warwick the other week - now we are signed up with them and raring to go. We were well impressed and things so far have been great. Same day phone and e-mail support, even after hours and they do sound like they know what they are talking about.
