MCSE : "Trade Qualification" or "Diploma" or "Qualification" or....
I'm doing the electronic Visa Application ( just to see what papers I will need once ACS comes back with a hopefully positive response ) :
I'm now at "Details of applicant overseas qualification"
And I have a question as to what MCSE exactly is. I *think* it's a trade qualification, but it's also a qualification AND it's a diploma too.
Anyone can shed some light ?
Doing some thinking.
MCSE could be a diploma
and the individual courses ( like Exam ID 058 ( networking essentials ) could be a trade qualification ? )

MCSE is a Microsoft certification Qualification.
I think it 6 exams in total.
It would probably take a year to get if you have no computer experience for most people.
(Some claim to have done it a lot quicker)
I read somewhere it is supposed to be equivalent to diploma

Hi Life on Easy Street.
Thanks for your answer. I have gotten my MCSE in 2000 , I have MCDBA and MCSA too.
I just needed to know if it was 'a diploma' or 'a qualification'.
This is how I have done it :
MCSE = 'diploma'
MCDBA = 'diploma'
MCSA = 'diploma'
individual exams passed ( like the Designing Network Security for windows network ) = 'other'. So I ended up with 21 'other' from Microsoft, and 5 'diploma' from Microsoft.
It's just a name I figured, I'm sure they know what it means, if they change it to 'Trade qualification' it won't matter much anyway, I guess it's more for the Skill Matching database part anyway.
Thanks for your answer mate :)

If it is a diploma you should have a certificate saying you have it. I'm no expert but I don't think an MCSE is a Diploma.
I'm sure if you Google it you could find out from their site.

Hi Scamp, my husband is going to be in the same boat he is also an MCSE and has 2000 but has done an MCP in 2003 and hopes to get the other 5 exams to get his MCSE 2003. I don't think an MCSE is a diploma, I thought it was a trade. So therefore I would be curious as to what other people have come up with. By the way where are you hoping to head in OZ.

Hi Scamp, I have just had a look on google and it appears that an MCSE is classed as a Diploma, Please correct me anyone if you know different. Have a look at the link below.

Yes I have an official Microsoft Certificate that states I'm an MCSE, so I figured it was a diploma. But thanks for looking it up bushbaby !
By the way Bushbaby : There's a special module that will allow your hubby to 'update' his 2000 to 2003 MCSE. That's the one I did. If you do that one, you can get MCSE 2003 with only 3 exams. It's got the exam number 070-296.
If your hubby does the same as me, he can then go for 2 of the MCSA ( look at the A instead of E ) modules, which will grant him MCSE 2003 + MCSA with just 3 exams.
He can also get 2 SQL modules, and get MCDBA + MCSE 2003. That's also 3 modules.
MCDBA has always been very good for finding work for me, it really helps. It's also very interesting, and there's more and more databases all around ( MCDBA = Microsoft Certified Database Administrator aka SQL 2005 admin ).
We're planning to go either coastal ( perth ? ) or towards the lakes in central coast. I have looked up quite a lot of Real estate, and it seems that perth is REAL nice with the beaches, but it's a bit isolated. We have also looked at the brisbane waters ( the bay just north of sydney ) where Woy Woy and Delays Point are, they look nice. ( we're looking to buy something on the water ). And there's also Toukley and Gosford we were looking at. I also heard Port Macquarie was nice, and then I looked at Lake Macquarie also , which seems to be the 'snob-lake' but it looks really really beautiful, loads of small boats and marina's and stuff.

Hi Scamp,
Thanks for all the useful info. Sorry it's taken so long replying I have been doing some research. Perth does seem to be good for families and jobs, although like you we are not yet committed to this area, we have been looking at Melbourne and just North of Sydney. I guess it all depends on where we can get the best jobs as to where we decide to settle. Hubby is an MCSE like you and I am an IT administrator/PA.
