We were 5 points short of the 120 points because we couldn't claim the spouse points (for me) because I had no formal qualifications. I had run my own business and been an office manager and a trainer so could fall into the 'Office Manager' category in the SOL, but couldn't claim the points without a qualifications.

I contacted a training company in Queensland and did an AQF Diploma in Business Admin. It only took me about 3 weeks to complete as I did it by RPL (recognition of prior learning). Vetassess passed me, giving us the extra 5 points. The training company I used is called "Orion".

The course was done be email and phone calls with an allocated assessor in Queensland. There were no work place assessments. They were a great company and brilliant people to deal with. They assessed the course within 2 weeks and issued my certificate really quickly. I couldn't fault them. The cost was roughly $1500(AD).

If anyone would like details please pm me. If none of the mods object I can post the details on here.

Karen

Hi Karen,

Just read your thread and we are in exactly the same boat as you, I am an Office Manager with 12 years experience but the only qualifications I have are NVQ's. How do I get in touch with Orion?

Thanks,

Clare

Office Manager

Hello Clare.

I believe the applicable webpage from Orion Training's website is here:
Orion Training and Performance Management | Brisbane Training and Managment

You are probably looking at one of the Diploma courses, which Orion can provide through distance learning with Recognition of Prior Learning a feature of the course which will allow existing competencies to be recognised.

With the Australian Diploma secured you would then seek a migration skills assessment from VETASSESS as an Office Manager.

Note also that the occupation of Office Manager is now on the ACT Government's wanted skills list, allowing the possibility of sponsorship from the Territory Government and a permanent residency visa under subclass number 176, Skilled Sponsored:
Business and Industry Development - Skilled Migration

Please remember that you will be required to demonstrate to the satisfaction of a Department of Immigration case officer that you have been working for 12 out of the 24 months preceding the lodgment of your visa application as an Office Manager, with your duties matching those of the ASCO Code descriptor for that occupation. ASCO Code descriptors are available by typing the ASCO Code into the Search box at Australian Bureau of Statistics

If you would like to discuss visa strategy more fully please complete your details here:
Go Matilda - Your Gateway to Australia - Contact and Feedback
(include a comment along the lines "I am an Office Manager from the PiO forum").

Best regards.

Hi Cant Wait, I cannot find your PM. Please can you help. We are in the same situation. Visa Connection put my husbands TRA bits in and he got that and I then sat my SVQ 4 in management here but it was never vetassessed. We have only found that out at the weekend. Our papers were lodged earlier in the year, but no documents were ever submitted. It was only after I have spoken to Gollywobbler that this has transpired and she has really helped me.

I am gutted. We are hoping that they can be vetassessed and I pass, but if I dont, I will probably have to go down the same route as you. It could be an option. I have my certificate and my reference, but its the waiting game. Please can you pm me and give me any more information that I may need.
Thank you.
