We were 5 points short of the 120 points because we couldn't claim the spouse points (for me) because I had no formal qualifications. I had run my own business and been an office manager and a trainer so could fall into the 'Office Manager' category in the SOL, but couldn't claim the points without a qualifications.

I contacted a training company in Queensland and did an AQF Diploma in Business Admin. It only took me about 3 weeks to complete as I did it by RPL (recognition of prior learning). Vetassess passed me, giving us the extra 5 points. The training company I used is called "Orion".

The course was done be email and phone calls with an allocated assessor in Queensland. There were no work place assessments. They were a great company and brilliant people to deal with. They assessed the course within 2 weeks and issued my certificate really quickly. I couldn't fault them. The cost was roughly $1500(AD).

If anyone would like details please pm me. If none of the mods object I can post the details on here.

Karen

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your congratulations. The only downside is Vetassess send you a PASS letter in the post with your photo on it. I look like Myra Hindleys scarier sister on my photo!!! LOL

HI Karen

Congraturlations and VERY well done!

Please go ahead and put the company's details on here publicly. Anything that can help our members is very worthwhile. Do they ahve a website? If so, the link would be very useful.

How did you find out about this company, please?

Best wishes

Gill

Hi
I found out about Orion by emailing lots of training providers in Oz to see if gaining this qualification by RPL was possible. Orion came back to me and said yes, it was. There was only one other company that said yes, but they were only offering Business Management as opposed to Business Admin. There were a couple of sections in the Business Management course I would have found difficult to cover, so I went with Orion, plus they were just really nice to deal with.

I asked my agent if she thought Vetassess would pass me if I did this, but she wasn't sure as they have never had anyone do it before. I thought I'd go for it, because even if Vetassess never passed me, at least I'd have a qualification if I need to get a job in Australia.

The work I had to submit was just like doing an NVQ. The AQF Diploma is the equivalent of our NVQ4, which is the minimum requirement.

Orions details are:

Suzanne Manwill
CEO
Orion Training andPerformance Management
& The Skillshop

Ph: 07 3392 7055
Fax: 07 3392 7955

Unit 7/44 Station Road, Yeerongpilly 4105
P.O. Box 6213, Fairfield Gardens 4103

www.otpm.com.au

I hope this can help anyone in the same position.

Karen

Congratulations!!!

Hi Karen

Very well done! Am sooo chuffed for you! I know it's just what you've been waiting for, now you can go onto the next step, we are practically at the same stage now! We are just waiting for our daughters passport to turn up in the post before getting a couple of things certified, then we can submit our application! Soooo excited for you, remind me where it was you were hoping to head to? It was a shame we couldn't make Sundays get together, I only noticed the update last week, and we all had a bad dose of flu!

We'd be up for the next one!

Once again yaaaay! Another step closer!

Love Donnah xxx

Good on ya Karen. Great news. I admire your determination. Its commendable that you are also thinking of others who may be struggling just like you were!!!

Get that application in!

Hi

I kept saying to my OH 'there's got to be a way'. I scoured the Vetassess site looking for ideas and then scoured the internet. When OH did his ACS assessment by RPL, I thought 'why can't I do that?'.

Karen

(I love the photo too!!!!)
