Well, it's been a while in the making. We have our visa stickers in our passports. Of course, being able to sell our house would be good. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen for a few months yet. Do we hang on for who knows how long, or do we put the house up for rent and set off?
Best guess is that we rent and set off as soon as my contract ends at work (end of July). So that means renting - both here and Australia, since we can't really buy without selling here, unless we go for another mortgage.
I'm very lucky in that my old boss has started up his own company and can employ me as a sort of a freelance. It's at least a stepping stone to getting settled.
We've been dithering for a few weeks. We've put the house up for sale on houseladder.com, and we've had a good amount of interest. However, people can only buy your house if they've sold their own, at least one of this value. And with the announcement on the news today, that Halifax believes that house prices will dip 9-10% in the next year, there's no point in waiting. We've decided to make the move in August.
It's an exciting, yet terrifying prospect. Bring it on. We've been dreaming about this for the last 18 months and it's finally coming to fruition, even if it's not quite how we imagined it. I still think it's the best move of our lives.
We're headed for Lara, VIC. I can't wait.
Spock.
