Hi Chris,
Hope you don't mind me asking, only you mention the scaffolding, only I thought this was a specialised trade, and you needed tickets etc for it, and OH reckons you could get into serious trouble here if you tried to have anything to do with it, so why are they asking about scaffolding. OH concerned as he has never had anything to do with scaffolding, he is a finishing joiner/carpenter (whatever they class him as!!!)
Anyway would you mind letting OH know what you were asked to do with regards to this, as he would really appriciate it, and maybe some others might like to know also.
Thanks in advance, and sorry you keep getting asked so many questions.
Thanks.
Andi.
I agree the more i read about the carpentry test, the more worried i get. I thought scaffolding was a different trade altogether and had to be scaff tag! registered. Why would we know! Clint.
Hi Jack N Andy
My OH is also going to London to do Plumbing on the 22 July. Does Andy due fusion welding? In Scotland its only Transco & Scottish Water who do it. Joe is quite worried as it seems to be part of the pratical assessment. In the CORGI handbook its says you need to be specialy trained!
Val
hi no worries at all glad to help
theres not that much to be too concerned with ,ive never had a scaffold ticket or ever erected the one they showed me and dont no why they ask because all the health and safety these days you shouldnt touch the stuff anyway
but yep it was a sheet of paper showing a scaffold (not sure wot type its called? its the interlocking type?) and they asked to identify each component ,like a standard or a transom or brace , lift and toe board ,so through powers of deduction and noing a few obvious ones and the ones that are self explanatory ie sole plate i managed to get most right !! and most carpenters with half a brain or less like me should too
Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting back so quickly, have passed on the info to OH, and he thinks he knows what your talking about. This whole test in my opinion is a mess, making people do things they would never dream of doing here, what that all about????
Any way will not go on about that, and OH will need to do what asked of him (rather him than me) I feel for all the trades that have to go through this, but anyway.
Thanks again.
Andi.
OMG!!!!!! We have a date for the practical........22nd July at London....yay!!!!!!!!!
Just wanted to let you know.
If you can , keep us posted on how you guy's get on. How exciting, but also very nervous for OH.
WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!! Congratulations
I think the excitedment has gone now and turned to worry...really feel for Clint, he never worries about anything...well if he does he never shows it, but i think he is now only because he is going to have to do things that hes never done, i cant work it out Oz needs these skilled workers!!...THEN LET US BLOODY IN..lol but vetassess getting all these tradies to do things that are not compatible with their jobs.
Well good luck all, everyone keep us posted!!!!
Does anyone know wether or not we can use a mitre saw, planer (electric) battery drills or is it all hand tools. The list was vague for chippys it said bring power and hand tools. What tools would you advise.
sorry to but in just a question for chris did you get the rise of the roof on the 8x4 sheet or do you have to work it out ie (sin, cos, tan) or am i getting to carried away in the detail.
(one in thought joiner or as the ozies call us (carpenters).
