Teenager and Visas

Hello all. We are considering a move to Oz having attended a migration seminar and trawled the net for information. We have 3 boys, and our eldest will turn 18 in September. This will probably be before we submit a Visa application (176 State Sponsored hopefully). He has just finished 2 years at college (HNC course) and is thinking of leaving to get a job - doing what I don't know! Can he be included in our Visa application or does he need his own? Does he need a college place lined up in Oz?

Note that he's not keen on coming with us, but we are obviously worried about leaving him behind.

Thanks
Roobarb

Hi
If you started the ball rolling now and didn't hang about you could probably have your application lodged before Sept, is that not an option for you.
We explained to our agent that we were very pushed for time cos it was only three months before Tony's 45th, and he pulled out all the stops and got us State Sponsorship and had app lodged in time. Let me know if you want his details.
Good luck

Sheena

Hi
my DS was 20 when we applied and my DD was 17 they were both on the application because they were both in full time education and working 1 day a week

by the time we got a case officer DS had left uni but was not working, then got a tempory job, he was looking into continuing his education in Oz but had not booked on to a course

and DD had turned 18

the case officer did not ask for any further info on DS but did ask what DS situation was and asked for evidence that we were supporting her (we had already done this for DS)

basically they need to be dependant on you for food, shelter and clothing and you have to be able to prove it.

Are you going with an agent?

good luck with your application

Karen

Karen,

I wasn't planning on using an agent. If the 18 year old does come with us, and is proven to be dependent, is he eligible to work, or would he be a financial burden on us forever?

Cheers

Hi Roobarb

Your son must still be in full time education when you apply so would strongly suggest you aim to get your application in before September so that you can prove he is still dependant.

Once you get to Oz however, he is free to do as he pleases - work, study, surf whatever!!

Sadly we couldn't include our daughter on our application, she was 19 at the time and no longer studying. She has remained in UK but will be coming next year most likely on a working holiday visa until we get to the point that we can sponsor her as she will be the only remaining immediate relative left in the UK. It's a hideously hard thing to deal with, leaving them behind so that's why I strongly suggest you get the application going soonest!

Lyn

Hi guys,

The best and easiest route is to a) get visa etc in asap as their ages will be frozen on the application along with who else is on there & b) get them into full time education (Doing whatever they like until a decision is made). My son who is 18 did just that, went into fulltime education, went to college for three days of the week. It's easy as you can get a letter from the college or whatever, to say that they are enrolled on their books and they can also write what sort of course they are doing.

Hope this helps a little.

Hello Helen

Unfortunately your information is not accurate.

The children's ages do not "freeze" and if they are 19 or over by the time the CO is ready to make a decision, they must still be wholly or subctantially dependent on their parents for the basic necessities of food, clothing and a roof over their heads at the time when the CO makes a decision about whether to grant the visas or not, not merely at the beginning of the application process.

Best wishes

Gill

Our 18 year old was included on our visa, we applied when he was 17 but when we had still not received our visa he turned 18. Our co asked for a further form to be completed and evidence of dependacy.

I sent a copy of his medical card, bank statement and a statement confirming that he was completely dependent on us and will continue to be dependent in Australia. He has been out of school for some time and we explained due to house moves and lengths of courses he was waiting until he got to Australia to enroll in further education. He has never worked.

I hope this helps, we were so worried he would not be included and it held up our visa application at the end.
