sponsor with child from previous relationship

The further I get with the application the more questions/worries I seem to have! Can't wait to finally send it all off!!!! But one last question....

My Australian sponsor has a son from a previous relationship. He hasnt had contact with him for years (a very long story!) and his son has remained in Australia with his mother when my partner came to the UK (he has recidency here now). My partner stopped paying support and I dont think his ex has told her son that my partner is his dad! My question is... do I need to put that he has any dependent children when I fill in my form (I'm applying for the prospective marriage visa) as his son is not dependant on him as he has a completely separate life in Oz. However as he is 16 would he still be classed as depenedent? I don't want to lie on the appliaction but will it affect me getting granted a visa?

Nina, Are you using and agent or diy ? if an agent do check with them but i think to play safe it should be put down that yes your sponsor/partner has a son (cant see why this would affect you as the son already in oz & i guess a true citizen) any one who applies for defacto/spouse etc type visas have to list all children from the sponsor & applicant - sure theres no way it way it will effect your application

Thanks for your replies. I’m doing the pmv diy, which has proved to be ok once you read through things like a million times! I thought it would be best to be honest, so fingers crossed!

My only concern with him having a son over there is a financial one. As we’re both in the UK at the mo he doesn’t have a job in Oz so I’m a little concerned that AHC would question how he could fulfil his sponsorship role etc although his bro has kindly offered that we can stay at his house when we first arrive. We’re going send off some of his pay slips as proof that he’s employable (we have some savings but not a lot) and I work in Insurance so hopefully it should be ok to get a job in that when we go.

I’ve had my medical and got the police check so hopefully by front loading it won’t take too long. I think it’s the anxiety that after all this hard work and expense my life will be in the hands of AHC!! But it’s nice to know that people on here are going/been through the same thing so I’m not alone!
