Partner Application - Question

Hi,
I'm a newbie on here.
Me and my girlfriend are looking into the possibility of moving to Australia, probably in late 2009. I have checked my points total online and should be fine to make the points. However, my partner does not reach the points by herself. Is there a way of us applying as a couple and, if we can, what sort of criteria would we have to meet? We have been together for two years and lived together for a year.

I would be able to transfer to Oz with my current firm. Would there be a way for them to sponsor her as well?
I know that nobody can give a definite answer as to whether or not we will be eligible but I thought it was worth posting on here in case anyone else had been in a similar predicament.

If Oz is a no-go for us then we'll stop torturing ourselves by looking at all the gorgeous photos of it on the web!

Thanks,
James.

as far as i know, if you can prove that you are a defacto couple, you can just add her on your application.

Hi James,
Your partner can potentially go on your visa. It is called defacto (relationship - not married). You have to provide a significant amount of proof that you are a couple (joint bills/statements/references etc). There are plenty on here with more info. or you could look at the DIAC website for more info.

Department of Immigration and Citizenship

Good luck,

Tracey.

adding to tracey's post... if you were looking at the 176 skilled visa, here's the definition of 'spouse' which includes defacto relationships, and the requirements to meet:

Thanks for the replies.

That's a relief! Just checked the skilled migrant pages and I'll be ok through that route.

Right, back to look at more photos of Oz.

I expect I'll be posting a fair bit on here in the coming months.

Cheers.

Hi

Just a word of warning, keep everything starting now. As we are not married we have to provide evidence of defacto. Although we have been together for 9 years and have a son toghether we have been asked to provide further evidence.

Unfortunately I am not a hoarder of any sort and they have asked for evidence in a social aspect i.e. joint holiday documents, joint gym memberships etc.

I just dont keep things like that if I dont need it I bin it. So try to keep anything you think you could use as evidence when you go to apply. We have now got to get parents to do statutory declarations to say we have been together for longer than 1 year.

I am not trying to put you off in any way it is easy but I just regret throwing out everything that I could have used now.

Good luck in your move
Mandy

I agree with Mandy - Definitely hold on to receipts/bils/emails/holiday confirmation etc..

Mandy - Do you not have a joint bank account? I paid £10 for a years worth of bank statements that showed all household bills being deducted as well as the social stuff such as restaurant payments and holidays.
Also send photos of the two of you in various hol destinations...different hairstyles too!

Good luck!

I originally sent in Mortgage statements, joint bank account statements, insurance policies showing each other as the benefactor, payslips, our sons birth certificate and other bills and things, they then said they wanted proof of our social aspect of our relationship and also something from the government. Which we are sturggling with as we dont claim any tax credits or benefits and for some reason the council tax bill is sent individually to us so the letters dont have both our names on.

Like I say just make sure you keep everything from now on and you will be fine.
