After finally deciding to go for it we have just been told by our agent that the next skills practical date is from 14th - 25th July and OH (carpenter) will be 45 on 14th July, so we are just too late. Our option now seems to be to try and get sponsorship, has anyone managed to get this as a carpenter.
Is there anybody out there who can provide any help on the best way to go about this, I have been trawling numerous sites checking out the different visas, but can't get my head round it at the moment.
Any advice, help would be appreciated, soooooo disappointed.
Tracey, DO NOT GET DISHEARTENED!!!!!!!! where theres a will theres a way. as a carpenter he must have a pretty good shot at getting sponsorship, i know in canberra they are spending millions on new houses etc in the near future and theyre state government are really trying to push their city for people to migrate to, also Brisbane has a huge construction industry or i should say Queensland, the important thing is chick if you guys really want to go then keep at it the fact your hubby literally just misses the age cut off shouldnt pose a brick wall to you. get on the phone to an agent tomorrow or tues forgot bank hols tomoz and find out your next step, but i do know the next thinkingaustralia expo the canberra and ACT government are going to be there specifically trying to recruit folk so may be worth getting yourseves there?? check their website for dates goodluck and keep your chin up x

i'm aged 44 and 45 in August and have just posted my vetasses forms off my agent has told me that they will give me priority for a place on the practical test which are held in june, because of my age,
Davyone1, thats great news. The agent we were using, luckily hadnt paid any fees yet, said they had contacted a few centres but there was nothing anyone could do!!!
Thanks for the support kellyjamie, I'm bleary eyed from all the websites I've been on looking at other alternatives. OH's sister has just reminded him that he has first cousins around the Sydney area, but not sure again because of age if they would be able to sponsor or even if cousins can sponsor, so intend to do some more research.
