Anyone else confused where in OZ to go to?

Hi,

My OH has passed Trade Assessments ((December 2007) - just passed his IELTS (April)and we have just posted off our main Visa application(today) but we still can't decide where we want to go and keep changing our minds. We have only spent 6 weeks in Oz and that was 3 years ago but we loved everywhere we visited from Sydney up to Cairns. We thought we would go to Port Macquarie NSW but now think it may be too quiet and more of a retirement town. Nice for a holiday but perhaps not for everyday. But on the other hand we wouldn't be at home in a city. Currently live in North Lincolnshire in a small market town.

Just wondering if anyone is in the same position. We know we've got a long time to make our minds up yet but when people ask us where abouts in Australia we are hoping to go we feel daft saying not sure yet !!

For those of you who have made up your minds where to go what made you decide ?

Now the application is in I'll have lots of time for researching different areas but somehow the more area's I research the more confused I am becoming.

Hi All,
Kind of in the same boat except we narrowed it down to Queensland, Brisbane area but not ruled out Gold Coasts or Sunshine Coast.. It's difficult until you are sure where job is for main earner.
I think the main considerations are - climate (totally different Sydney to Cairns), city or rural. You say you don't fancy city? I would look at NSW Central Coast or Queensland - Sunshine Coast is a chilled out area from what I have read. I am no expert, just going on what I have read.

Climate in QL is much warmer on average but NSW has more seasonal climate. Again, no expert.

Good luck with choosing!

Hi
We have been trying to decide between Brisbane and Adelaide and could'nt make up our minds for ages but we finally settled (well for this week anyway ) on Adelaide due mainly to the weather!! OH is a Brickie too and one of the reasons for moving is the weather. Adelaide seems to have the most suitable climate - not too hot and more important not so much rain. (We hope )

If it doesn't work out you can always try a new area.

All the best

Hi

Exactly in the same boat.......thought QLD originally then perth now back to QLD i have spent a year in Oz and spent most of my time up the East coast travelling and finished up in Perth via the middle and wext coast. Queensland has the weather although wetterthan other areas. If you want relaxed chilled out then i would say Perth but im starting to think it may be a bit isolated for us. You have a young family like us and we are looking at south QLD coast maybe north NSW coast border, weather good all year round and plenty to do all the way up the coast also like the look of sunshine coast.
I know this wont help as you have prob done shed loads of resaearch live us and your right it is confusing and you find one place and then another............good luck........maybe close ya eyes and stick a pin in the map!!

Thanks all for your ideas etc. and the congratulations etc. It is just nice to know there are many more people in the same boat I guess.
Perth was somewhere we were considering but think it may just be too hot to be laying bricks in day in day out ?? We liked the gold coast area too and sunshine coast - oh here I go again !!!!! If it's fate then I guess we'll end up where we are meant to be. :-)
If anyone doing Vetassess trade applications for bricklayers and need info on anything feel free to ask we'll answer any questions we can.

How BIG is this Boat? I think there are a few of us in it.

We dont really have a Idea yet other than looking arround Sunshine coast maybe? ish sort off. Or south of Sydney Wollongong area's. We have three kids and i want a new job starting from scratch again (must be mad).

But still waiting for an answer and Bloody house sale! Credit crunch my bottom.

I still believe anywhere over there is better than here, Life's not easy anywhere you live BUT you need quality of life, and that dont happen here in my eye's.

Best of luck and lets get some VISA's

OH a brickie on the Gold Coast, and there seems to be plenty of work about (at the minute at least!). He acclimatised to working in the heat quite quickly. They build a brick veneer around a timber frame, so are in the shade a bit, and follow the shade around the house if they can! It's only supposed to be three months or so of really hot weather. It's autumn now, and although cold first thing, by about 7am it's warming up outside, and reaching about 25 degrees and sunny, which is lovely.
We're not in the busiest part (Surfers Paradise/Southport), but are still within 20 mins drive, and 20 mins from the theme parks too, which are all here. Plus, there are beautiful beaches, and the rural and rainforest-like hinterland areas within a short drive. It ticks all the right boxes for us!
It's a really hard decision, good luck with it.
Jo x
