Hi
Was reading an article in a mag that says if you have an International Driving Licence you can drive for 2 years before having to take the Oz test. Otherwise you can only drive for 1 year before taking a test on their equivalent of the highway code. Does anyone know anything about this?

In brisbane you have 3 month on a uk licence then its just a straight swap and a few dollars for a qld licence, you can buy it for 1yr,3yr or 5 yr.there is no written test or driving test.sorry i cant be of more help

Hi
Cal's correct, you do get 3 months and then you go to a licencing office and after a simple eyetest you get an Aussie licence. We went last week (we are in Perth) and 'cause I only passed my test in the UK in January I have to display 'p' plates for 2 years! I was a late starter in driving obviously!

hi
in Melbourne
you just book a time at a vic roads office camberwell was good
take your uk drivers licence, passport and proof of victorian address
they fill it in with you, they take your photo, quick eye test
pay your money -half hour tops job done
then hold on to your hats when your driving in the city
its mental sometimes, honestly some of the worst driving
ive ever seen and as for letting in at lanes or out at junctions forget it
i find a stiff drink helps in the morning lol
