Ok, plan of action once visas arrive - advice please!!
Ok, we should get our decision any day now and - being an optimist - I am hopeful that it will be a positive decision!!
So, what should we do once we get that?!
So far I have -
Sell house
Sell all worldly goods
Book flights
Say goodbye to everyone I have ever known
but I am sure there must be some bits missing!!! See, I told you I was an optimist!! Where do we look for accommodation? Should we set up a bank account before we get there? We know roughly where we want to start out (Melton West - any opinions?!) so should we look at or contact schools or would that be a bit over excited?!
We are not taking much stuff with us but recommendations of shipping companies would be helpful in case I just can't live without things when we come to pack!!
..Hi Laura..it's an exciting time ain't it!!..take a breath (conserve your energy..you'll need it!)..and savour the moment when you do get the nod for the 'golden tickets'!..you've covered the big things..i think you can set up a bank account with most Aus banks before you go, and then you activate it when you arrive..we go with Commonwealth..i have contacted schools before from the UK and they are very friendly and helpful..one school sent me through an enrolment form..i think as well as the big things, if you can also manage to set up stuff in Aus before you go it all helps ..wishing you all the best and i'm sure it will all fall into place..hope you hear soon and can celebrate getting your visa's!.. Hi, We sold the house, sold things we werent' taking with us, got quotes for removal, booked flights, Got 12 week rental in Aus, sorted out schools, got pen pal for the eldest at the school so she'd know someone on her first day, arranged bank account, booked tickets, gave notice at work, had our last xmas, said our goodbyes, put cat on flight, we got on flight .... arrived ... tired but happy.
Hi; 1 Pay off any debts/bills 2 Open bank account for oz online 3 Close any bank accounts that you have in uk and dont want too keep going 4 Contact life assurance (if you have any) and make sure it covers you for oz for a few weeks untill you get sorted in oz 5 Claim any tax that you may be intitles too 6 Contact child benefit (if you have children) 7 Arrange any power of attorney (if you need it) 8 Sort anything to do with pets etc if you bringing any to oz 9 Book removals 10 oooh geeeeee the list is endless - im worn out just thinking about it all !!!! good luck gizmo

We Got Our Visa`s Just Over A Week Ago, And Decided We Could Get Everything Done And Dusted And Be In Australi In 3 Weeks, The List Was Endless, Trying To Open Bank Account And Exchange The Money Over, But Need Copy Of Passports, Which We Have Sent Off For Visa`s To Be Put Into Them, So Hit A Brick Wall There Until They Come Back, Also Need Passport Numbers For The Shipping, Which I Did Not Write Down, So A Bit Stuck There Too, One A Car Boot Today, Everything Was Gone Within An Hour And A Half, The Flights Are Booked For The First Of May, And Time Is Rapidly Running Out, But I Am Still Confident, Honestly I Am ????????.
