realy confussed

hi i wonder if anyone could shine the light on some matters? OH was looking into the viza 457 which realy looked a good idea as a few of his work colleagues have already moved to oz, (we're in second lot of workforce to move) they all love it! but reading through some of the threads i read that if you are on 457 viza we would have to pay all school fees!!! no free medical care dont know of anything else? so i was wondering if would we be better off getting our own vizas ect or looking for some opionions? forgot to mention that its melbourne that we would be going to! my heads on a roundabout, so any information i can get would be great!!!

Hi Tess,
it is really confusing!
We are going out on a 457, i emailed the education authority in Queenslansd (where we hope to go to!!). We are NOT eligible to PAY school fees - only what the other kids pay - ie Uniform and Books for the year (different prices for different year groups!!) but not full fees.
The holder of the 457 visa (should - i know my OH will be) get free health care but not the wife and kids. We are having to "top" up on OH free care to get us on it. Dental care is also needed (just so you know!).

Hope this helps. I am sure Gill or one of the others will be able to shed more light!

Gill.(another one!)

What trade is your husband in? where possible it is better to try and secure a permant residency visa, this carries less ties and more freedom when in oz,you also qualify for lots fo things you wouldnt on a 457,medicare,centrelink,schools etc.To get one you have relavant experience and qualifications of skills on the demand list.I would recommend you have a look at the goverment website or the dept of immigration( Department of Immigration and Citizenship ) this should help you a bit, migration agents such as Go Matilda,Visa Bureau etc can also help ,most offer an initial consultation

thanks gill, i think i will e-mail the education authorties in vic and see what they say. thought that if we went on 457 viza it would save some money! dont mind paying a top up on health ins, but the thought of paying all of the school fees untill we or if we got permanent vizas! especally after childcare etc etc that comes along with having children. thanks again, no doudt i have a nervous breakdown or have no hair left before i get there!!!!! tess
