Retirement to oz

Having contacted an agent have been told to retire to oz you and spouse need around £250,000.00 to lodge with the oz gov plus an income based on another investment of £thousands. My adult children want to imigrate plus daughters partner and grandson 20 months that would be 4 young adults. All of good character and excellent work records. We are willing to sell our house in uk and commite our futures to oz, but our children need fiancial aid from us , but with the oz gov needing all that money it has been a set back for us all. Can anybody suggest a way round this. Roddy desperate

Hello again Roddy

To remind you, here is your earlier thread:

http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/welcom...ld-codger.html

It sounds to me like you went to the Expo today and ended up thoroughly confused?

If you and your wife wish to retire to Oz entirely independently of anything your children might do or not do, then the chances are that you and your wife alone would have to apply for a subclass 405 Investor Retirement visa, which is here:

Investor Retirement (Subclass 405)

However, you speak of 3 adult children who all wish to move to Oz in their own respective rights? Has each of them got the right skills-sets to be able to do so (or their Partners?)

If 2 out of the 3 children are able to migrate to Oz in their own rights and to obtain Permanent Residence in Australia, then the visa which you and your wife should be planning towards is the Contributory Parent visa, not an Investor Retirement Visa. And, trust me, a Contributory Parent visa does not cost anything like as much as an Investor Retirement visa, my friend!

Please see the following links:

Are the 3 children that you describe the only three children that you and your wife have between you (including children from previous relationships that either your or your wife may have had)?

If so then the drill is this:

Two out of the three children migrate to Oz as skilled migrants. Once 2 out of the 3 children have Permanent Residence in Australia, you and your wife can set about preparing to launch a Contributory Parent visa application. When or even whether the remaining child migrates is irrelevant as far as the Contributory Parent visa is concerned.

So let us turn this whole thing around and build it in the only way that a pyramid can be built, I suggest - from the bottom up!

What does each of your children do for a living?

What does each of their Partners do for a living?

We need to start with the children first and then build the visa strategy upwards towards you from there.

Best wishes

Gill

To add to Gill's excellent and comprehensive reply - have a look at the financial implications of you moving here too - at the moment, UK state pensions are frozen so there would be no increases down the track.

If at least one of your children comes here, you could do what my parents did for many years in their retirement - spend 6 months here and 6 months at home. They built a granny flat on our block and came and played golf from October to March every year for 15 years until they (in their words) became too old to do it any more. Best of all worlds for them really.
