evidence for spouse visa

we are in the process of gathering evidence of our relationship ready to
apply for my husband's visa. i've got a couple of questions though. i read somewhere that coloured scans of documents do not have to be certified, is this true? also if documents have to be certified, how much does this cost? lastly, the mortgage and all of the bills are in my name, is it worth getting his name put on them too or not? they are all paid out of our joint account, its just that i organise things like bills

It's not worth adding names to the mortgage at this stage - just send a copy of your bank statements showing the mortgage. Our household bills are all in 1 name only and we dont have joint bank accounts but everything has been accepted.
You will get lots of different prices for certifying docs. Our local court quoted £25 to do the lot but couldnt fit us in quick enough. Found a solicitor who charged us £2 a document so phone round. Dont know about the colour scanned question.
But copies of utility bills, bank statements and personal items do not have to be certified (unless specifically requested).

I read on one of your other threads about immigration requesting evidence back to Mar 03 from you. Do they want evidence of 5 years together to get a permanent visa instead of a temporary one? We have been together 6 years but only living together for 4 so I don't think we would be able to do that. Which documents need to be certified? Is it just official ones like passport and birth and marriage certificates?

Yes the request was made so they could possibly grant PR straight away. If you can find anything at all that can tie you together that far back then it might work even though you werent living together. Do you have anything like old mobile phone bills that show you were in contact before the time of living together?
It's just all the docs they specifically ask for that require certifying - birth certs, passports, citizenship papers, stat decs, proof of income for sponsor, relationship statements. Your relationship evidence, cards, invites, bank statements, bills etc dont.
