what's wrong with the English????

Sorry everyone this is a big whinge (pommy style) Why is OZ making it so difficult for us English to get out there. My friend from Brizzie e-mailed me and said she cannot understand why we have to go through so much now having to do an English test even though born and bred here to get extra points now the points system has changed yet again even though we both have a trade although for mine you now need a bachelors degree which is another nightmare when she said that Brizzie is filling up with bloody somalians and vietnamese. Why is it everyone can get to England but we can't get out.

thank god thats of my chest does anybody else feel the same or am I just a whinging pom

Hi Gilly , no you are not the only one thinking that , I feel the same its not fair that we should have to take an english test if we were born and breed in the uk , It is are language so why should we have to prove we can speak it . god i really needed to get that of my chest too . I could go on with this subject all day so i will stop now ..... take care karen

Reading through the threads on here I'd say Brisbane's filling up with the likes of us and anyway, what's wrong with somalians and vietnamese, do they have less right to make a new life?

On another note - agree that it does seem daft for us to have to do an english test but hey, points mean prizes!!!

i mean how hard can it be to do a test on you own language an advantage i think
it just takes so long for the visa but then again doesn't this prove what a great country it is when everybody wants to get in

Yep it's amazing, only yesterday I heard on our local Gold Coast radio that due to the shortage of skilled trades people in OZ the OZ Government are targeting British tradies AGAIN to fill the major shortage over here , why on earth don't they capitalize on the fact that there are many English trades people who want to come over but find the application so daunting they don't bother in the end. SO WHY DON'T THEY GIVE THE MOTHER COUNTRY A CHANCE AND REVIEW THEIR POLICIES FOR BRITISH TRADE MIGRANTS WHO THEY NEED SO DESPERATELY.

Hi there - I too am trying to ge to Oz with the family...but i have to say i think Oz have got it 100% RIGHT. They are picky and choosey too who they let in. Maybe if the UK was a little more like that there would not be so many of us trying to jump ship!!

Geez Some people!!!

Brizzie is NOT filling up with Vietnamese and Somalians.

The vietnamese have been in aus (in numbers) since the arrival of the boat peope in the '70's and they take their place alongside british migrants both good and bad, the great vast majority are good Australian citizens like the brits. They've earned their place you haven't yet.

There are somalians but, I think?, mostly sudanese arriving at the moment on humanitarian visas... escaping war, murders, rapes, forced enslavement and such like. And yes a very very small number are in a bad way mental health wise and are struggling to adjust... give em a break for gods sake!
The vast majority of them are adjusting as well as can be expected... but the rednecks aren't going to let happen too easily.

As for the 'english language test' whinging from speakers of english as their first language? All I can say is thankfully for you its not an IQ test. It's designed to make it much harder for non english speakers to get the points. A deliberate skewing of the process in your favour.

oh things like this make me mad. poster refering to somalians and vietnamese did not say they had less right... was pointing out how much easier the system seemed to be in connection to getting the visa. i totally agee they have as much right as english, of course they do, maybe it was put badly by the op but really annoys me when some people decide they will make an issue and take things out of context. if you dont feel it is easier to get in uk than it is to leave uk then maybe you should come and take a look down our way. and surely the english test is not to make it harder for migrants but a way of ensuring that everyone is given the best chance of intergrating, there are people who have lived in uk for donkeys and yet dont intergrate mostly becouse they cant communicate. and thus you end up with the them and us senario, creating communities within communities. how is that in anyones interests.
