well OH just home from the Expo - think he was a bit disappointed...think he was expecting to be knocking the sponsors back...
Never mind, we have loads of useful info to be getting on with whilst waiting for VETASSESS....

i was really upset with the whole setup, there was nothing there that i didnt already know but what really peed me off was the fact that they put driving on the list when filling in the application form for this weekend and when i got there they had nothing to do with driving what so ever! all they said was 'you need to be sponsored' WELL I BLOODY KNOW THAT!!! oh well perhaps my expectations were to high, never mind i'll find more out on a fact finding holiday.
yes I know, my OH thought something similar. He said most of the stands didn't tell him anything that we hadn't aready hunted out so he was a bit disheartened! We are now thinking about doing a recce instead of just sod it and go!
Keep your spirits up though.... the only thing I would complain about is that for somewhere that is supposedly desperate for skilled people, they make it very difficult!

Hi there, I was thinking of going to the next one in april. I am a carpenter/joiner , and the job is on the list so do you think it will be worth the trek or not? Will i be just waisting my time? Do i take a CV with me or proof of qualifications? I here there is plenty of jobs in oz so finding one shouldnt be a problem but to get a job before we get there should take away some of the stress, so will the expo help me or not?? thank you Steve

I went on Saturday morning and couldn't agree more with everything you've said.
Only Expo I've ever been to that was of any real use was Sandown the other week but that was for bloody Canada. Why's it so hard to get to Oz for Drivers when there's such a shortage ?????????
Hubby just got back from expo and we are really disappointed. He is a concrete mixer self employed but was told the job title isnt even on the list.
There is a shortage in construction but no proper lists guiding you were jobs are needed.

Hi guys, Not sure if you have seen this or not ? This is the link to the skills Australia want at the moment
My OH got in about an hour ago after a 500 mile round trip, he was also disappointed and wondered why he got an invite at all. He is in IT and nothing there for him, handed out one CV, but we will plod on and see if anything happens at Leeds expo next month.
Seems to be a common theme here! My hubby also got back from the London expo very disappointed and like most of you wondered why he'd been invited. Unless you are a doctor or nurse you'd no chance of being offered anything. An expensive trip and nothing gained (apart from a free jute bag!)

I am in I.T and i went there too saturday at 2pm. I was disappointed too a little as i was looking for SA but they only had 2 stands. got a few sponsors though from Canberra who for me were the best stand there as they took the time to sit and talk to me about my skills. They are even re-writing my C.V to the OZ Standard for me and passing it on to Canberra Uni as they have a position in I.T coming up and are also going to try and get me a visa.
The Problem i have is that i have just sent of for my assesment at ACS and when that comes back i am ready for the online application which the DIAC told me now takes 12 weeks but a sponsored visa takes 12 weeks too so dont really know which one to go for as i have to wait and see what job offer i get in canberra?
