Hi Gwen

You have to have your medicals done by a panel doctor - and you can find a list of them on the diac website - Contact Us
This link will take you there. It's worth pointing out that they all charge different fees - so phone around if you're watching the pennies! Good luck

Hi Gwen,
We Had Our Medicals Done In Wrexham, £675.00 For 2 Adults And 2 Children Including Both X-rays And Blood Tests ( Extra Blood Test Because Of Tattoos ), And Courier Service To Australia. We Thought This Was Pretty Cheap, I Know This Is About An Hour And Half Drive From You, But If Is Going To Save A Couple Of Hundred Quid, It Could Be Worth It, Also X-rays And Meds Are Done In The Same Building, And Doctor Was Great. Hope This Helps.matt.

I also live in the north west and did some ringing around yesterday to get some prices. For 2 adults and 2 children aged 2 and 5 with basic blood tests, postage, x-rays and inclusive of VAT, the prices I was quoted are:-

Carlisle - £465
Huddersfield - £490
Leeds - £635
Liverpool -£641
Salford - £536
Preston - £623
Sheffield - £587
Stoke - £609
Manchester - £643

Availability varied. Some only did meds on certain days of the week. The DIAC list of Panel Doctors can be found at United Kingdom - Panel Doctors.

I am going for Carlisle, as my folks are from there and I have heard good reports.

Good luck

Rajag

Hi Gwen and Steve
You have to pick off a list there are a lot on there. We live in Kent and are going to Harley St in London on Wed 19th March (fingers crossed - last hurdle).
You can download the list of docs from the website.

Hi gwen, we went to Preston (moor park avenue) and the x-rays are done at Fulwood Hall Hospital. For us it was the most convenient rather than cheapest as we had to take the kids out of school for the afternoon. As a nurse you'll have to pay for extra blood tests too (rip off)

Unhappy Help with Health Check timings ...

I've been reading the posts about medicals, but the booklet we printed off the immigration site said NOT to get the health checks done until after you lodged your application. But it seems most people do, to speed it up. We are applying on a Spouse Visa, so it may be a quicker timeline anyway, but I don't know what to do ..... the meds are expensive if you have to do them twice ... can anyone advise please???!!!

Hi

Yes, lodge your application first. It can be a long road just to get you to that point believe it or not. Definately lodge first or I reckon your throwing your money away. Good luck with it all

Hi
As far as I am aware, once you have the medicals done they are only valid for 1 year so if you do them too soon you may find that once you get the visa you will have to go pretty quickly. We have waited until we had a Case Officer and they were requested. We are having ours next week and then once they go off visa will be granted anywhere between 2 - 6 months depending on how quickly they are processed. Some people seem to be lucky and get the visa pretty quick, others take up to 6 months. We have to sell house, etc. so if we get the visa by July (we are hoping we will) we will have to be in Oz by March 09 when the year will expire on the medicals. So that still gives us quite a bit of time to sort everything out. Hope that helps!
Lesley
