Question Pregnancy on a 457...

Just wondering if anyone could help me!!!???!!!

My partner and I are both looking at being sponsored by a company in australia to emigrate later this year on a 457 visa. We have however spoken alot about having kids together in the next year or so and would love to start a family together in Australia.

However, if i was to fall pregnant whilst in Australia on a 457 (I will be sponsored also, not only there as a partner), does this affect the visa and/or application for permanent residency? I am getting to an age now where I do not want to wait much longer, but in the same instance, we are both desperate to get to oz... HAs anyone else been in this situation? Will the company who sponsor us be the deciding force? I do not want to get kicked out of the country for falling pregnant!!!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Sue

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

You would definitely not be kicked out of Oz and neither would your child.

I think the baby could probably be added to your visa or something like that if you were still on a subclass 457 visa when the child is born.

However, what about maternity leave and such-like? Have you investigated these aspects as yet?

Best wishes

Gill

Thanks for the reply Gill. I have not yet enquired about maternity leave etc. as we are currently going through final interviews etc. and will be discussing renumeration and benefits in the next week or so. I didn't want to raise it straight away with the company as I do not want them to think that I am going over on their time/money, only to then take time out for a baby. Though it may seem like that, it just so happens that everything that we have wanted for so long has suddenly come together!

It's more of a precautionary measure really as we are both desperate for a child but do not want to jeopardise this opportunity!!!

Since both of you are sponsored. The question will be who will be up for health insurance. It will be a whammy for the employer to lose you, pay the health costs, or on maternity leave your change of circumstances means that your employment has ceased. Better come in as partner,...
