I have just found out that we have been approved for a 457 visa - and my journey to this point may be of interest to some of you.
I am over 45 and some 5 years ago left the mining industry after nearly 20 years - the mining boom in Oz however gave me hope that I could return to the industry. Despite the serious labour shortage and alot of interest being shown in me, I was getting nowhere and was on the verge of giving up completely. However a recruitment company in Brisbane never gave up on me and eventually found a company willing to take me on and to also sponsor me through the 457 visa route with a view to supporting me for full citizonship in 2 years time.
I was interviewed and psychometrically tested back in sept/october - the visa application was submitted on 28/12/2007 (we had to wait for the positon on offer to be approved to be given to a non-oz) and the visa was approved on 28/2/2008.
I was determined to get to Oz and eventually this is going to happen - so all of you who seem to be gtting nowhere please remain positive and I am sure things will turn out.
As for me I have a feeling the real work is no ahead of me - need to move the family out there and find somewhere in Brisbane to live!!!!

Congratulations! Great post, am sure it will help others. I'm hoping I can talk my Dad (50) into considering trying something similar; he works for Aerospace in UK.
