Thought this could be of interest, teephoned two panel doctors in Cardiff....our nearest...this morning, we have been quoted £150 for adults and £50 for any children under 14, from one of the surgeries and £150 for adults and £100 for children under 14, plus Bloods... yes you heard me correctly + bloods... and extra bloods for my wife as she is a nurse and would work in the same profession in Australia. Xrays come out at a whopping....£83.50 each, there are 5 of us for xrays and 7 for medicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the cheapest we could do them is......
£150.00 X 3 = £450 (41,39,17)
£ 50.00 X 4 = £200 (14,13,10,6)
£ 83.50 X 5 =£417.50
Total for med in Cardiff then!!!!! £1067.50 for 7 of us, a bargain?Well that depends on whether or not we get to Australia
Then the other Panel doctor wanted £950.00 In total for the 7 of us, which included a discount !!! Apparently????????? I think not........
£950.00
£417.50
Total.........£1367.50 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes a Whopping £300.00 more !!! They must just pluck these figures out of thin air !!
Any comments or thoughts greatfully received.........Im sure there were more panel doctors in South Wales, if we gotta do it this way then so be it !!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea...they make you smile in a sad way don't they?? I was only saying to a few on my mates here a couple of days ago that we had our meds done on the 1st November and they've only just got to Sydney yesterday!!
Ok, we had complications with extra reports and the like, but the infuriating thing was that, although we paid on average over £350.00 for specialist reports, once they found out that all was ok, they didnt seem that intersted in sending them off.. I think the delay between our last test to report submitted was 5 weeks or so?
Where have u lookled for the meds? I dont think theres much choice in South Wales..I think 2 in Cardiff and 1 in Caerphilly...oh and one in Wrexham too. If you use 4 Elms at least Nadine the woman who deals with your case, tries her best to chase things up for you...unfortunatley, as im sure your wife will know being in the medical proffesion, u just can't hurry consultants up.
hi pandyj

taking blood £20
counselling £10
postage £65
total £527

HI we used docs at ' The parade' just of city road 2 adults £290 inclusive of blood test and courier fee to oz. Xrays done at the 'Spire hospital' in pentwyn £167 for 2 adults
Firstly thanks for all the replies. The most expensive was 4 Elms, I spoke to Nadine this morning and they seem to charge for the Meds then add the blood tests on top then my wife needs an extra 1 or 2, because she works in the medical proffession....As I said we are going to have to do it but which one to choose ??
I also spoke to Dr Owen at the Parade which is other practice in Cardiff, which incidently is not to far away from 4 Elms.... he was £50.00 cheaper for each of our children, four under 14.....So £200 is quite a lot......I will have to phone him again to confirm or ask him some more questions.....The main thing is to get good service, I can see that I may need some specialists report but we will have to wait and see??????
Roxymusic, did you deal with Dr Owen??? Any good ?? Scarletfever, I think the one in Caerphilly has gone as they are no longer listed as far as I can see ???
Melpaul, Caerphilly would be the closest to us, so we will give them a call to see if they are still Panel doctors or not??????
Shadwellarmy, we are trying the Skilled indipendent.....175.
Well Thanks everyone...It's true whenever there's a shortage of something and it's in high demand, the price always goes up !!!
Last question, how long do the meds take to do ? IE, how long are you actually in with the doctor for??

Hey Pat.
By the time we got there, changed, had the xrays....ummm...paid, it was about an hour...we went for lunch, got stung for that too.......went to 4 Elms who probably took about 90 mins to get 4 of us thru. My son had some problems with the hearing part of the med but it went quite quickly and its wasnt any grief really.
