From Cardiff now in Bunbury WA

Hi guys we did our xrays in BUPA and they sent them to Sydney a couple of days later but seemed like forever to get a reply that they have arrived safely as immi website is only updated once the Case Officer has actually seen the report. Didn't have to have meds as on 457 but heard The Parade is good plus 4 Elms Surgery.

We've been here since October and absolutely love it, its very very different from Cardiff I can tell you. Nice to read some welshness in people's writing if you know what I mean - get your butts down here we could do with some more welsh people at least you'd get our sense of humour and sarcasm. Aussie's don't really get sarcasm you may find yourself explaining your welsh humour alot but hey ho we still love it here and nice to be different and taught everyone I'm Welsh so that's different lol.

Life is good down under fingers crossed for your journey through the lovely paperwork but its worth it all honest

Smile where to go for medicals?

Hi Everyone, I wanted to check if anyone had heard if medicals are any cheaper across the water?

Yestreday we were finally requested for our medicals and police checks after our application was submitted on 27th August 2007.

I noticed that 4 Elms was a more popular choice and is closest to us but wondered if it was worth checking out any other medical centres that may be in Bristol, Birmingham etc?

Any info would be most appreciated.

Hi Ryan Rachel & Beth,

We finally had our medicals with Dr Owen at the Parade, in Cardiff, he did us a deal because there was seven of us, he was very good and thorough, and explained everything to us, I'd say it's worth giving him a call, the X-rays were a standard price and done in the Spire hospital Cardiff, We looked a crossing the bridge, but it made no sense, by the time you have paid out on fuel, toll on the bridge, parking, food if your out for the day, it'll probably work out more.......meds done and sent, police checks came back yesterday and will be sent on Monday, so it's all a waiting game now........

Hello,
I live in Bristol and just had meds done last week at a Bristol GP surgery named on the panel's list. It cost £110 + £20 for the bloods to be done at the local Spire Hospital (i think i'm due one more bill for the courier fee for it all to go to London). Med took 45 mins and very straightforward. Had the x-ray done also at a local radiology clinic for £50 + £10 postage. I thought it was all quite reasonable but i have the added bonus of living very close by to all clinics i needed to visit.

Thought this could be of interest, teephoned two panel doctors in Cardiff....our nearest...this morning, we have been quoted £150 for adults and £50 for any children under 14, from one of the surgeries and £150 for adults and £100 for children under 14, plus Bloods... yes you heard me correctly + bloods... and extra bloods for my wife as she is a nurse and would work in the same profession in Australia. Xrays come out at a whopping....£83.50 each, there are 5 of us for xrays and 7 for medicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the cheapest we could do them is......

£150.00 X 3 = £450 (41,39,17)
£ 50.00 X 4 = £200 (14,13,10,6)

£ 83.50 X 5 =£417.50

Total for med in Cardiff then!!!!! £1067.50 for 7 of us, a bargain?Well that depends on whether or not we get to Australia

Then the other Panel doctor wanted £950.00 In total for the 7 of us, which included a discount !!! Apparently????????? I think not........

£950.00
£417.50

Total.........£1367.50 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes a Whopping £300.00 more !!! They must just pluck these figures out of thin air !!

Any comments or thoughts greatfully received.........Im sure there were more panel doctors in South Wales, if we gotta do it this way then so be it !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well for once I am glad we live in Canada. We just applied online for our 176 Visa yesterday and Adelaide has already requested that we get our meds done.

Called our Panel doctor in Kitchener Ontario and got an appointment for next week.

Total cost for Panel doctor for 4 is $360.00 or about two hunded and twenty pounds. Xrays are $40.00 each about 18 pounds, and blood work for 2 is $8 each or about 3 pound fifty.

Total cost is $540 canadian about two hundred and fity pounds total. That is for two adults and two kids aged 14..... not bad eh!!!!

Thanks For Help

Thanks for your advice, I will nt around for a few quotes at the begining of the week - it makes sense to go local albeit a little more expensive - How I wish we lived in Canada though like "twinsmom65" sounds as though you have had a better deal than us Brits!

Rachel x
