Question Medical question - colitis / chron's

Hi all - just wondered if anyone has got through their medicals if they have active colitis or chron's?

My OH has recently been diagnosed with Chron's Colitis and will be on medication for the rest of his days so we are now really very concerned about the medicals. Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks
Em

Hi Em

There is i'm sure someone lurking who has Chron's it could be Lynne from TonyandLynne.

Have a look at some of her threads she is now living in Sydney.

I'm positive its her but forgive me if i'm wrong.

I'm sure it isn't a problem though.

Hi Em, yes Wardy was right it is me (Lynne) who has Crohns Disease, i have sent you 2 PM's as couldnt fit it all on 1 which is a copy of one i sent someone else who was asking so it was easier cutting and pasting it but i forgot to edit the name so it will say Hi Eric

My Crohn's isnt physically active anymore which my PM's give you all the details of my past and present so hope it helps and feel free to ask me absolutely anything, i have the local hospital here near where we live in Sydney asking me to do a bit of counsilling for them with me been through it so i am looking forward to doing that in my free time when they need as i dont mind helping others through it as not a pleasant thing to have :-(

I found this thread interestig but would like more info if anyone has any...

I'm 26 and have been recently diagnosed with mild version Crohn's ileocolitis and am currently coming down from my recent flare up.

I am contemplating moving to Oz next year - if i did come over it would be via some form of workplace sponsored visa, although as I'm a qualified accountant I could go through the normal route. My Crohn's is a mjor concern for me as I am currently covered for all eventualities in UK through my private medical insurance firm and I am also concerned about whether this would affect my visa application.

Could anyone offer me advice on whether my crohn's would impact my visa application? Also, does anyone with Crohn's or Colitis in Oz have any idea about obtaining medical insurance/cost of treatments, or alternatively how is care managed over there?

Hi Lynne,

my girlfriend has just been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. She is gonna need to apply for a new visa, as current one is about to expire. We are worried about her not passing the medical, could you give me some info about that, please.

Thanks.

Martin

Hello Martin

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Lynne is not around any more. A month or two back she said that as she is now very busy with her new life in Sydney, she does not have enough time to be able to help out on the forumm - which is fair enough since she works full time plus has young children etc.

Which visa does your girlfriend currently hold, please, and which visa is she thinking of applying for? Which particular Health Criterion applies depends on which visa is being sought, hence my question.

Best wishes

Gill

Hello Gill,

thanks for your reply. My girlfriend is on student visa and is applying for the same - student visa again. How does that look for the medical then?

Hi Martin

If your girlfriend is medically fit enough to continue her studies then it definitely WON'T cause a problem with the meds for her visa, for three reasons..

Firstly, it is a condition of the Student Visa that she has Overseas Student Health Cover.

Secondly, if she is British she is also covered by the Recirocal Health Care Agreement between Oz and the UK in addition to the OSHC.

Thirdly, a Student visa is only a temporary visa. They really are not greatly concerned by a medical condition which is not expensive to treat, is not infectious etc when somebody is only a temporary resident. Please see the links below:

Department of Health and Ageing - Overseas Student Health Cover

Visitors to Australia - United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands, Malta and Italy - Medicare Australia

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1163i.pdf

Don't worry about it. As long as your girlfriend is well enough to continue her studies then you will NOT have a problem with the visa meds.

Best wishes

Gill

ulcerative colitis

Hi,
New to the forum.
We are applying for 457 from South Africa. My wife has ulcerative colitis. I am the main applicant. Will this affect our eligibility?
Any comments or similar cases will be appreciated.
Thinus
