This is my first time

Hi everyone, we ( martin 33 carpenter, debbie 40 aux nurse, domi 18 student, connor 15 student and little one Millie 10 ) are just starting out on our visa process and have been told we need our medical reports before we put in our application. Does anyone know if this is the case. Thanks for any advise as all is gratefully received.
Many thanks Marty.

Hi Marty and Debs and welcome to PIO. I have never heard of anyone having their meds done before the application. Usually after the app has been received you will be allocated a case officer who will then contact you or your agent (if you are using one) to tell you when they want your medical reports along with police checks. I could be wrong but good luck with everything.

Don't have your medicals done before you submit your visa. The medicals are only valid for one year. When you are granted your visa it is from the date of your medical or police check. Some people send them off with the application (front loading), if you do this you have to be reasonably sure you'd be ready to validate your visa in a shorter time as there may be a delay in in getting acknowledgement/A CO of a few months. E.g If you send off your application and medicals this month, you may have to wait 6 months (or longer for your visa), which would then give you 6 months to make your first entry into Aus. Previously, the on line applications were being processed more quickly because it was new, however, I think that there are now also delays with this system due to the large number of applications. In reality, Front loading probably takes a couple of weeks off the process - not months, but potentially it could reduce your validation period quite significantly. They're also expensive (especially for a family)

Hi All

Welcome to Poms in Oz, Marty & family.

Marty - I think you are thinking of the new, on-line, fast-teck subclass 175 visa. With that, you get the file ref number almost immediately and the next thing is it dishes up the meds forms and says to see the Panel Doctor, I've heard.

But get the Transaction Referenmce Number before you do the meds and unless you are doing it on-line, I would not be in a hurry to frontload the meds.

Cheers

Gill

Hi Marty

You need your TRN or a file ref No (paper based) to submit meds as they cannot tie the easliy with your application when they arrive in Oz.

We are paper based 175 & our application went to Adelaide but our meds go to Sydney to be looked at.

We had our application lodged on 11th Oct 07 & only last week did we book for meds for mid march. We wanted a date that my OH could take off work as our meds is a 3 hour appointment (dont panic its because we are a family of 6!). There was appointments available this week & it only takes a few weeks for the meds to be passed if all goes well.

The police checks in london only take 40 days to be returned to you.

The visa is granted from the date of your police check/ meds which ever happens first - we are hoping we have made an educated guess as to when our meds are going to be requested by the aspc judging by the processing date we estimate they may ask us for ours early april so if ours are done mid march we should be right on track - but if the processing date on the aspc e-mail stops & doesnt move on for a while we will have the choice to put back the date of our appointment for our meds.

We need a good period of time between visa grant & our validation date as we have to still sell our house & I would rather not have to pay for a validation trip for all 6 of us - just to turn around & fly straight back to sell the house!!

Good luck

Rachel

Thanks to everyone.

Hey thanks for all that advise, i thought it was a bit weird, i was trying to be clever and do it on-line. Think i'll go for the paper route sounds a bit easier. Thanks again to everyone.
