case number/case officer

Hi everyone, could anybody tell me if having a case number assigned to visa application is the same as having a case officer? Also I,ve heard that there is a web site that you can go on and track the status of your visa application. Is this right and if it is could anybody tell me what it is please. Thanks from Gaztin

Hi gaztin657,

I haven't heard of a case number? you get a File reference number, but when you get a file number that does not mean you have a case officer. You get issued with your file number when you get your full acknowledgment letter.
Yes you can go onto Department of Immigration and Citizenship and track your application but I think you can only do this when you have applied for your visa application on line.
When was your application lodged, are you using an agent or doing it alone?
You can call the Adelaide processing centre (00611300364613), if you give them your file number they will be able to give you an update. Although we are using an agent I'm starting to get really fed up with all this waiting and not hearing anything, so i called them last night and they were really helpful and gave me the update I was waiting for.

HI keeley, It must be a file ref number we have. This was sent to our agent on 9/11/07. Payment was processed on 19/11/07. We,ve not heard anything since but my husband, kids and myself are getting out medicals done on 29th feb and 3rd march. We,re awaiting our police checks aswell. We,re hoping that sending them off will maybe get the application moving!! We,re hoping to go to Perth and we,re applying on a sponsored 176 visa. My hubbys brother is our sponsor. Its frustrating not nowing how long the process will take. I read on another forum that Dima are processing paper applications from 16th sept!!

Hi again,

Yeah I know how you feel it really is so frustrating all this waiting and never really knowing when and what is coming next! me and my OH are going over on a skilled 136 visa, my OH is a Carpenter, we are also going to Perth, and we too have booked our medicals for next week (28th). Our application was lodged on the 7th Aug, payment as taken on the 9th Nov, then got Acknowledgment letter with File reference on the 4th Jan, not heard anything since, so I called the processing centre last night and they told me that they recommend we go for medicals & request police checks, they said it should be anytime now we will get allocated a case officer. Hopefully, like you, doing meds etc will get things moving.

Hi All
It seems like eveyone on here is awaiting a CO, our application was aknowledged in Nov but still not heard anything yet. We're hoping to go to Sydney, does anyone know if the visa process takes longer for Sydney because they don't need so many people there? I'd be grateful for any information.

Thanks
Liz
