Student Visa

Hi All

My wife & I plus 2 teenage children are looking to go to Oz on a student visa. I am 48 and my wife is 46. My wife is going to do a 2 year qualifying course and I am going to buy a business and spend the maximum allowed 20 hours per week running it. Our aim is to apply for permanent residency on a business visa after 2 years. Does anybody know if this route is possible, or has anybody done the same? If so, can you explain how it worked, and were you successful in getting permanent residency?

Thanks

Hello Rodger

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

Your idea is very, very complex, my friend. That is for sure.

You definitely need the help of a Registered Miggration Agent with a stack of genuine experience of the scenatio which you propose.

In your shoes, my own first port of call would be Alan Collett of Go Matilda because Alan is a Chartered Acountant in both jurisdictions as well as being a Registered Migration Agent.

The sort of help you need goes way beyond acquiring a couple of visas. If you are ging to buy an existing business in Oz, you will need help with the verification process and so on because you won't have any better idea than I have about how to do all this in a different jurisdiction, I suggest.

You can contact Alan via a PM or e-mail Poms in Oz or via his website, which is here:

Cheers

Gill

Student Visa / SC 845 Visa

Hi Rodger

We have been advised by an agent that this our only route into Australia due to ages of 50/48 and we are both very unsure about proceeding , buying a business seems a very big step but saying that some friends I have spoke to who have had a small business before can't see why we are worrying , if you buy the right business ( has to meet all the requirements of the 845 Established Business in Australia , employ 3 turnover 200k etc ) it should be ok.
How have you got on ?
We have been advised SA ( Adelaide ?) is a good location , lower prices etc and still all classed as a regional location if that helps.

Best Regards

Jeff

Hiya

I'm also considering applying for a student visa (I'm 38 which apparently is too old already fr a work visa!) Where and what are you planning on studying?? I've just returned from a 3 week mooch around Perth and Sydney TAFES and wasn't overly impressed with any of them (tho admittedly that may be due to my age!). I'm now considering Uni courses instead...at $40,000 plus though, they aren't cheap for an international student.

Hi Junan70

Don't know why you have been told 38 is too old ??? We were considering study just to
get in first for min 2 years but have been looking at longer term courses ( Business IT etc )
but 50K ( GBP ) for 3 years including rent etc is a good estimate

Best Regards
Jeff

i,m confused....... what 38 year old cut off are you talking about ? the cut off age for a skilled work visa is 45 unless it,s just totally passed by without me noticing which of course is very possible lol. seriously though the cut off age for general skilled migration is def 45. as long as you have a skill, on the, in the demand list, and the paper qaulifications to prove your skills it is def 45
