Hi there, my family and i are looking to go to melbourne. i am a nurse and my husband a barber. we have decided not to use an agent at this point in time as we are still busy gathering the relevant docs for my skills assessment so are still very early on in the process. I have requested a transcript of my course to be sent to the skills board and have the reference from my old employer as not been in my current post for the last 5 years, however it doesn't appear very detailed. i do have a job description i can attach to it though, can i do this? also when that is all done i have to apply to register for the Nursing Board of Victoria for registration, does anyone have a clue when i need to do this and how long into the process? although i have had detailed talks with migration experts previously no one can answer this one! help!!!!!
My name is Wendy and I am also a nurse who's off to Melbourne. The TRA is the easy part once you've got all the paperwork that they require. Just remember that to register in Victoria you need exactly the same paperwork again so it might be worth getting a few copies done at the same time. As you will see from our time-line we have just had our medicals done just waiting for police checks to come back then that should be it for us. I have the paperwork for registration waiting on the coffee table ready to be posted off tomorrow so you see it does not have to done right now, but can in fact be left until last. You do have to bear in mind that the processing time on this might be as much as 12 weeks, so you have to way it all up. Another thing to consider is that all registration has to be renewed on 31st Dec regardless of when you first registered so if you are not going till next year than I would wait a bit.
Anyway, if you need anything more specific answered, PM me and I will only be too happy to help you out.
Take care.

Hi Wendy I am in a similiar postion just thinking about moving. Hubbie's CV sent over. I had 2 children since 2004 and have not nursed since but been an NVQ assessor. Prior to that all agency to fit family life. Not sure how to progress any ideas? Re-reg this DEc so have plans to update skills but not sure what oZ would look for as regards what would be acceptable for visa.Thanx Cath
Hi! Cath,
Not exactly an expert in the nursing field but you said that you have been doing agency work: Well did you do enough to maintain your registration or have you let it elapse? If so you may be better off doing an up dating course. Would it be your skills that would allow you entry by the way, what about your hubby? Anyway PM me if you have any questions specific if you think I can help.
Take care,
Wendy

Hi I have just recently started working in Melbourne as a nurse. You need to apply to NBV. HaVE a look on line. Download the application form. Took me about a year to do! Then you have to go through the process again for the Autralian Nurses Board. You need a transcript of your training, references etc. Hope this helps. karen
The ANMC will transfer your file to your nominated state board to save you duplicating the paper work. You just fill in the necessary application form. I would also get a reference of your current employer and also I got a letter from HR stating how long I had worked for them and in what capacity and for how many hours (full time 37.5 pw).

I applied to ANMC first, but I do know people that have applied to the state board fist for a licence to practice, then the ANMC (apparently it's cheaper to do it that way). In order to get the 175 visa you have to have been working for 12 out of the last 24 months (used to be out of 18 months) for 20 hours or more to qualify for the the skilled visa. If you haven't worked for 2 years, they may want you to do a back to work type programme (you would need to enquire about this).
