msny thanks for that, i have 6 children in total only 1 is over 16 at the moment the 15 yr old is 16 in sept so hopefully we will be well on our way to having a sponsor by then and wont have to pay for her. that sounds so tight

but we will still have to pay for all of them to have med's dont we? i have warned the 2 older 1's of this even though they aren't coming with us, and the answer from my 19yr old soon to be 20 nxt mth was "wot i gotta do dat 4, i aint comin so why" me and hubby said well you have to because you are closely blood related, hubby also said to him that that he will have to have police check and the face he pulled, he has not lived at home for 3 yrs and hubby said you better not have done anything and not told ya mum about lol
his answer was "As if cant get nothing past mum"

regards
michell

Hi there, we are based in Essex. My husband took our forms to the Police HQ in Chelmsford in January and we had them back within 8 days - I think that's the exception rather than the norm, but we were advised that taking them there would speed up the process.

We totally understand what teenagers can be like, our 18 year old (who is coming with us) is not enthusiastic at all - I think he just wants to be told the house is sold and his bags are packed and we are off tomorrow.

Anyone over 18 is not technically a child anymore so your over 18 year old should not have to do any medicals or police clearances. (Unless you included him in the application as a migrating dependant.) Which from the sounds of it will be a relief to you.

There is no harm applying for his police celarance - they do only cost £10 - but I'd definitely wait for the request from your case officer for the medicals.

We were told that the acpo way is now the only way so it's £35 & 10 days - apparently it is being trialled by oz, nz & usa. The £10 way is no longer an option we were told. We did post a thread on here to see if anybody could confirm this.
GOOD LUCK with the visas - whichever way it's done!!

An agreement has been signed for a new trial police clearance for the UK however it has not been sealed and stamped by the Department of Immigration as yet. Although you can apply for a police clearance under this new ACPO £35 system, there is a real issue in that the new police clearance may only have a validity of 6 months. As opposed to the perfectly valid £10 police celarance which has a validity date of 12 months.

Some applicants have had a problem with local police authorities insisting that the new ACPO clearance is the only way to go, this is incorrect, and if you are having that problem feel free to send me a personal message, I can help sort out the confusion.

We have had a nightmare afternoon trying to submit the old style police check form (£10) for Andy at two local police stations in Stafford. We were told first of all that we could not submit it at the Staffordshire Headquarters so went off to the other police station in Stafford town centre. When we got there they told us they needed utility bills in addition to medical card, birth cert and passport. What??? We went home to get the bills, drove back to the station then another person told us there that we had to use the new style police check form ACPO and pay £35. We were not happy as we had already filled in the cheque for £10. We went home again and phoned another local police station in Cannock and they said they were happy to accept the old style form so we took it there - all in all 2.5 hours wasted this afternoon but got there in the end. Seems the bigger police stations will not take the old style form.

That is a proper nightmare.

We received this email from an officer in the High Commission here, this should help anyone in the future. I imagine if you take a print out of the email, it should clear up the confusion.

As soon as I have more info or an update I will post it up :

Hi XXXX,

At this stage we are still not promoting the new certificates as there are still some amendments that need to be made and one of those is the 6 month validity. The new certificates have been specifically designed for Immigration and Consular purposes and unlike the current certificates contain a number of additional security features. Once everything has been finalised with the new certificates it is then likely the 47P will be updated with instructions on how to apply under the new arrangements. Unfortunately, I am unable to speak on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, I can only imagine that the police itself may have a number of different departments who are aware and also not aware of the upcoming changes in the issue of Police Certificates.

I hope this information has been of assistance!

Kind regards,

XXXX

Lucky You Jo!! I think completing the VISA application will be a breeze after today's headache. Hope others don't have the same problems with their local police stations!

I have just posted a new thread - we had an email from the High Commission today and it seems that they are now using the new £35 method but are giving 12 month validity! This issue has been a real pain in the proverbial!!!!
