skills test

I have only just started my application and am already worrying what is involved in the electrical skills test are you helped with it or are they there to catch you out, the problem im worrying about is that all the electrical work that I used to caary out for companies used to have a dedicated tester so have never done really any testing is this going to be a problem with the test,

Hi

Feedback that we have had from our clients is that the test is difficult, they do not only ask you about what type of things you fit, how and why, but also questions like what is the thing made out of? One of our clients replied'I don't know' only to be told that "not only should he know how and why to fit something safely, but he should also know about the product he is fitting"

With regards to Queensland, the licensing around Electricians is very strict, most Electricians from the UK along with other licensed trades for example Plumbing are having to back to College in Oz to be able to apply for their license to work.

In most licensed industries, Tradesmen are given a temporary license to allow them to work under the 'Supervision' of a fully licensed Tradesmen, so they can earn an income whilst they study. Even qualified Trades people with City & Guilds are having to go back to College.

City & Guilds is recognised by TRA for migration purposes, but is not recognised by the licensing bodies for your Trade once you arrive.

Make sure you check out the requirements from the licensing board for the State you wish to live in. Also when you go for your practical test, ask about licensing issues, I would be interested to hear what thy have to say about it.

Laura
