The Department of Immigration are holding a jobs expo - it's by invitation only - you have to enter your details including experience and qualifications on line and if appropriate you get an invitation. Could be very useful for those who have not yet got anything lined up (like me !)

What happens at an expo?

Skilled workers attending an expo can:

• meet Australian employers who have skill shortages
• talk to State and Territory governments who want to recruit skilled workers
• find out more about migrating independently to Australia
• listen to presentations on topics, such as the Employer Sponsored Schemes, the Skill Matching Database, General Skilled Migration and Skills Recognition.

Who should attend an expo?

Skilled workers who:

• are under 45 years of age
• have good English language skills
• are interested in living and working in Australia
• will be visiting or living close to the location of the expo and who will not require a visa to be issued for the sole purpose of attending the expo
• have qualifications and/or work experience for an occupation on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) or other specalist occupations on the Skilled Occupation List (ENSOL) required by participating exhibitors.

I registered today too so hopefully one of us will hear back quickly. Anything that gets me infront of the right people to start looking for work has got to be worth doing though. Thought this was really useful. Fingers crossed for us all.

cheers for that,,just filled it in am off over to adelaide some time soon in the next month or so to try to find a sponsor,,but as they say at tesco,,every little helps

i went to one of these the other year didnt really find the work situation much help but spoke to wa gov who advised us to go it alone as it was easy enought ( which we did ) and found it ok we also were told by them that they would sponsor us which was a bonus as perth is where we wanted to go

word of advice if you get an invite it will be for you only. no partner or kids will be allowed in we could not get anybody to mind our son we both had registered and got invites we took our son out of school for the afternoon and went to manchester . they would not let us in with our son even though i argued my point we are emigrating as a family they would not back down . so i went in alone wa gov were outraged by this and ended up coming out to us in the bar area to talk to us both
