Cheaper medicals in northwest
Hi everyone,
We’ve been using this site for a few months now and found it really helpful. We haven’t used an agent for our visa application and this site has helped us to fill-in the gaps when we’ve needed guidance.
Sara and I spent time in Australia earlier this year; we fell in love with the place and decided we wanted to emigrate. We’re hoping to emigrate to somewhere within an hour’s commute of Brisbane (possibly Redlands or Redcliffe areas). I’d like to live reasonably close to the coast, but affordability might be an issue.
Getting back to the subject, people in the northwest can save a bit of cash on their medicals if they’re able and willing to travel. We live in Liverpool and got a quote of over £600 from the Elms medical centre in Liverpool. I read some of the other posts on medicals and the practice in Huddersfield was recommended. I gave them a call and we saved approx. £200 by booking our medicals at the Lindley Group Practice in Huddersfield rather than Liverpool. It was well worth the drive to Huddersfield and the extra £10 in diesel. We paid the following for our medicals:
£202: Medicals for 2 adults
£60: Blood tests x4 (Sara has a small tattoo so needed 3 blood tests)
£120: X-rays for 2 adults (done with Bupa Hospital Elland)
£45: Courier medical results to Australia (had to arrange this ourselves)
I highly recommend the Huddersfield practice. If you give Lauren a call on 01484 342190 she will talk you through all the details. Please note that DIAC could change their list of panel doctors at any time so always check that the practice is a listed immigration panel doctor on the DIAC website before you book your medicals. http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/panel-doctors/index.htm
Hope this helps some people save a bit of cash. Every bit helps.
p.s. Wish everyone the best of luck with their visa applications.

Your welcome.
I've got so much good information from this site over the past few months that I'm just glad I can contribute something.

Thanks a lot for that Colin
We live in Huddersfield but was still going to price different places around us anyway to see if it was cheaper travelling but now we don't need to do that!!!!
Can I ask why you had your xrays in Elland rather than the infirmary next door to the practice?

The infirmary next door was fully booked on the day we had set for our medicals, so we had the x-rays done at Elland to save us from having to make 2 trips to Huddersfield or rearranging the medicals and x-rays for a later date. It only took us about 15-20mins to get to Elland from the Lindley practice.

Having them done in Leeds was going to be £200 more! I had already rung around west yorks and this palce looked very good, so I'd already booked in with Lindley. I agree they were very helpful and patient in explaining everything that was needed. The Royal Infirmary were also very helpful in fitting in around the medicals. And it was still £200 cheaper!!
