Hi Guys just found this site tonight and found some interesting information on it. For all of you that have taken the plunge, the big leap, well done, good move.
Britain is dying. FACT. For the past 4 years my wife and I have been seriously thinking about getting out. Spain, the USofA or Australia. That reality is getting nearer now and with the green light from one of the kids the more I think of it the more it's going to happen.
Problem is how do I get in to Australia ? A skilled Visa ? I have searched sites and there is nothing listed for me. I work on the railways here in Britain and I hold a HGV Class 1 License, (which haven't used for 18 years) but I cannot find any site which is after experienced railway staff or drivers.
Are there any POMS on here that work on the Australian railways that can give me advice. Even a driving job with lorries will do. Anyone have any suggestions please ?
Really nervouse here thinking about all this. A big change and I only have 4 years left to do it apparently untill I'm 44. Need a new challenge, a new start coz this Island, the government is doing our heads in.
Hi there
gd for you wanting to get on in life & like many others leave the gd old uk.
To be honest i would think twice about Spain ( i lived there for 9 months & my parents do) unless you can speak the lingo perfect along with alot of other changes it is a very hard place to live
Not sure Aldo would agree or disagree he i think came to oz from Spain.
It is very nice with the weather beaches etc - but its hard work in everyday life espec if you have to work for a living (just my opinion).
Sorry im not sure about the skilled visa but there are many peeps on this site who will be able to let you know for sure.
All the best which ever direction you go in

Best advice i can give you is to speak to an emigration company for advice, and they will tell you straight (Commonwealth Emigration, speak to Ian, 01778 421393)
i have used these people and believe you me i rang around loads ! they are to be the best value for money (if you choose to use one) and they will tell you your chances
there are other ways of obtaining a visa to get into OZ, a four year one to obtain citizenship and it's in two parts, this company is a oz recuritment company based in Brisbane and in the uk, specialize in contract labour hire, they sort this out for you, give them a ring uk +44 1594 51726 (workforce solutions) and take adivce (plenty of work in open cast mining), go and be a Tonka toy driver! good money, a maths teacher packed up here in the uk and drives one!

Hiya unfortunately Australia wont release a skilled visa for hgv driver which is a shame as they are soo short of them.I have seen jobs on SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site for the railways, but you would have to see if they would sponser you i guess.Id definately seek the help of an agent,if only to be pointed in the right direction, most good ones offer a free consulatation anyway, the 2 companys that always get good feedback on here are Visa Bureau and Go Matilda, good luck with everything

Jonny280 is in discussions with a railway company in NSW which is looking to attract several foreign workers and is offering to sponsor them for subclass 457 visas apparently. I feel that if the employer is so hot to trot, it should be possble to improve the deal and to insist on an ENS visa instead.
The catch with a 457 visa in NSW is that the 457 visa grants Temporary Residene only. This is not attractive for buying houses in most States and in NSW and the ACT, it is not attractive for school fees either. NSW and the ACT both treat 457 visa-holders as "visitors" and therefore demand school fes of around A$5,000 per annum per child. The other States do not differentiate, so the school fees are about A$350 per annum oer child to cover stationery, books etc.
Aaron & Pryce are youngsters and I am pretty sure that they are not using the same user-name as their parents. I think you would have to ask them to put you in touch with their father, though a search for railway + Melbourne or trains + Melbourne might yield results.

Everyone, Thanks for that information and contact numbers. Looks like we are going to be busy over the next few weeks.
My wife doesn't like spiders but she is willing to overcome her Arachna. That's how bad she feels to emigrate.
Love Billy Connolly well there is a funny side to look at. This was sent to me by a friend.
It's Billy so don't open around young children catch my drift ?
Hi Guys
Just wanted to say welcome to PIO and the best thing you can do is talk to an agent they will point you in the right direction. My OH works on the rail for Carrillion but we are using my skills for the visa, Good luck

Hi thanks for info. I work in Manchester for Network Rail and with 24 years of railway experience that is my best option, but it's not a skill.
With the info supplied above I'm about to get cracking but not counting my chickens.
Hi We tried to apply to "Railcorp" based in NSW (18mths ago) but they are not offering any sponsored positions at the moment so it's interesting to see that Jonny is in negotiation with another company (Could be the same one??) My Husband has worked on the Railway for 18 years so Railcorp have kept his CV on file which is good BUT we have had to find an alternative route to OZ-We managed to find another "career" for him and have been granted Subclass 457 Visas (Family of five all granted separately and STILL waiting for one!!! Work that one out?) Anyway...............you may have to draw on the skills you have learnt in your current position and see what is on offer in the "sponsored" market OR update your HGV licence! Good luck anyway and I hope you can find something in the Rail Industry as my OH is now facing the challenge of a New Country AND a New Career..........Scary!
