well we arrived in november and its been a rollercoaster from day one.
if i have 1 piece of advice to anybody thinking of comiing over: make sure you come over on a permanent visa, not an e457 temp long stay.
you can only get a 70% morgage on a temp visa, you can't get child care benefit ,credit or health insurance unless you want to pay extortionate fees.
despite this we are having a great time, weather is excellent as is the lifestyle.
we are currently renting in baldivis, south of perth untill we can afford a bigger deposit.
also check whatever advice you are given at least twice as we are constantly given conflicting advice. oh and bring plenty of sunblock as you will need it

Unfortunatley not everyone has a choice of visas as the 457 route was the only one we could take due to hubby being 45. Totally agree about child benefit etc. We get not benefits but still have to pay taxesthat really bugs me. You forgot to mention you also have to pay stamp duty on any property you buy which is approx 5% of the cost of the house
We have been here 5 months and have just applied for perm visa 856 is this a option for you or do you have to wait 2 years??

But as you say weather is great & so is lifestyle & i would rather be waitng here for perm than Scotland anyday

I am going to Brisbane on a 457 visa soon. My friend said a good accountant should be able to make your dollars go a lot further eg using the living away from home allowance loophole.
