I was just on the DIAC website and it said that if you have applied for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) and have a criminal conviction your Visa can be refused.
My OH has a criminal conviction and we have been to Oz 3 times in the last 6 years, each time applying for an ETA. We were never even aware that we had to mention his crim record which is very small, he was not put in prison or anything, just got a small fine.
What does this mean?
Claire

Hi Claire
Criminal convictions are a sore subject in our house, got our pccs back last week and mine was fine as expected but OH had about 4 on his. Still cant believe it as they were all over 30 years ago but it certainly stopped us in our tracks. Just keeping our fingers crossed and started to say a prayer when i go to bed a night...

Do not worry. My OH had two. Our Agent laughed when I told her how he got them and said that they will not make any difference at all. So unless your OH was locked up, murdered someone, joined a vicious russian mafia and is still naughty, then he has no hope. Otherwise you will be fine plus they were 30 years ago. My OH's were since then. If you read on the DIAC website somewhere under character requirements it will list what they are looking for.

HI JO AND CLAIRE WE DID NOT KNOW EITHER THAT YOU HAD TO TELL THEM TO OBTAIN ETA ..... WHEN WE TRAVELLED 13YRS AGO WE HAD TO SEND PASSPORTS AWAY FOR VISA TO BE PUT IN .... NO ONE TOLD US OR EVEN ASKED ABOUT ANY CONVICTIONS ????
WE WENT LAST YEAR WITH AN ETA AND AGAIN NO ONE ASKED !!!!
UNFORTUNATELY ON THE VISA APPLICATION IT DOES ASK .... SO WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TELL THEM ..... MR KEILYS ARE NOT MAJOR THINGS SO WE ARE HOPING IT WONT STOP US GOING ..... BUT IF IT DOES ..... WELL HE BETTER WATCH OUT LMAO MRS KEILY

You must declare it on your application as it will come up on the PC and then they'd think you were making a false declaration. Minor charges do not seem to have stopped anyone from getting a visa.

We definately put it on our Visa application. Agent advised us not to hide anything but like you say Mrs Keily when we applied for our ETA's nothing was said about crim records.
