I first qualified in 87 as an EN at Southampton School of Nursing which has gone now then in 96 I to RN converted via an open learning course. That was run by Macmillan open learning courses. I have transcripts for midwifery course.

Joondalup hospital is private and public. I liked that as it means that we are not hand maidens to the Drs and will not de skill. They do not suture or offer water births at the moment.

I am a single mum with two boys to accompany me in my adventure. The youngest is very excited and actually wanted to just stay there at Xmas. The elder boy has mixed feelings but he is 16!

The ANMC advised me that they could send off my file to any of the state boards - I asked them to send it to nbwa and then just filled out the application to register with the board. I actually registered with nbwa a year before I came, then when I was applying for jobs, I already had my licence to practice

Thanks Ali,

But when I contacted the NMBWA they said that if I apply this year for registration that it will expire on 31st Dec. I am planning on starting work Jan 2009 so how do I sort the registration to commence in 2009.

Are you still registered with the NMC in the uk too?

I had my certificated to practice in Victoria in the November end of. It wasn't until I was on the plane a few days later that I realised it expired 31 DEc 07!!!!! I had paid for 07 but never got to use it. Nobody told me it was from Jan to Dec. It however, was quite easy to re register on line however, very annoying!

I applied for mine in the January and although It expired just as I arrived, it was very simple to renew on line and I didn't have any delay whilst they verified info etc., which meant that I could start work pretty quickly.

I am still registered with the NMC, but only because I'd just paid for 3 years and they said they don't give refunds. If they now do the yearly renewal option with the nmc do that one.
