ASPC - the date never changes !!

HI All

I received my ack on 11th December and on the letter it mentioned the time scale for allocation of case officers. It said that general skilled visa (blah blah blah) applications submitted 21st September 2007 were being allocated case officers. I just sent a blank email to aspc and it still says 21st September. Does it ever change ??

Also on my ack letter it says that it is possible for a visa to be granted without anyone requesting any more information from me, has anyone experienced this or known anyone experience this ? I thought it was always case officer - medicals/police checks - visa (in that sort of order) I didnt know they could grant you a visa just from your application - or am i misunderstanding it ?

also does anyone think its worth me getting my police checks and medicals now so they are ready for when i do get a case officer, i heard that this isnt a good idea because the visa will then be dated from the date of the police checks but I thought they lasted 12 months... im pretty desperate to be over there to be honest, work is horrible.

Thanks

Helen

Hiya, would not do personally, as, as you have rightly said, the date for initial entry to the country is the date you had your police check completed/ medical done- whichever is first. If you have a house to sell and can't shift it, or DIAC drag their feet long enough, you may either have a short window in which to enter Australia, or worst case, have to have one/the other or both redone (although very unlikely I think).
If you have no loose ends and can move quickly, maybe you could get them done in a couple of months- it takes only 30 days I think for the police check to come through, so still have it all done ready for when you get a case officer.
Many people do front load though; maybe someone who has will have a different view.

HI Jo

thanks for the advice. I am inclined to agree with you, I do have a house to sell and a months notice to work etc so yeah I could end up with a short window...

Maybe I will wait until feb until I start applying for the police checks. If i get a case officer and then have to wait another 30 days I will go mad...30 days working in this office is like a life time !! believe me !!

It's really horrible; you just want to get on with it now you've made the decision, I know. Hope you're not stuck there too long,
Jo
