Medical query

Hi All

I wonder if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation as me and whether they can offer me any help or advice. Basically before Christmas myself, my husband and our son had our medicals. During my medical the doctor noticed a goitre (which I didnt know I had) and referred me to a specialist who has since discovered a 7cm nodule in my thyroid which needs removing. Hopefully, once the leftside of my thyroid is removed there should be no on-going issues. However the immigration doctor advised that we sent off the medicals with the specialist report which state that I have the lump, that my blood tests are fine, so there's nothing wrong with my thyroid function although a biopsy has been requested and that then he will discuss the management of this probably with a hemithyroidectomy (removal of half my thyroid). This has been sent to the medical panel over in Sydney, does anyone have any idea of what might happen next - apparently I'm down as a B rather than an A on my medical. Do people think that they will flatly refuse me on medical grounds?

Hi wendy

I would be extrememly surprised if they refused you on that... as this condition once treated is not a drain on their medical system. they tend only to worry about illness's which will be such as TB and HIV.

If you do require medication afterwards you will probably only have to agree to pay for it yourself.

my medical was sent to another department as i have a degenerative condition with my eyes which will mean part/blindness probably in later life... but i still got a visa..so i wouldn't worry too much.

That makes me feel abit better, Im sort of expecting them to ask for more details though such as the result of the biopsy, or confirmation the operations been sucessfully completed.

Hi wendy... you are quite right they will probably want to see all the work has been completed... but all you need for that is your consultants letter saying as much....

apparently I'm down as a B rather than an A on my medical. Do people think that they will flatly refuse me on medical grounds?

Our son has a medical condition and when he had his medical he was placed in the B pile rather than the A pile.

We were told that the A pile is for people who do not or have never had a medical condition and the B pile is for people who do or at some point had a medical condition.

He got his visa no probs. Easier said than done I know but try not to worry, you will be suprised how many people are issued there visas who do have some sort of medical condition.

I have epilepsy and have had ongoing vision problems since the age of 3! I was 33 at time of applying! I got mine!

We had our medicals on the 4th of Jan, but the x-ray of one of our boys had a shadow and turned out to be a pnemonia on his lung!! So our medicals are being held back for 6 weeks so he can have a repeat x-ray, another £80 thank you very much.Although as it is for a medical reason there will be no VAT charged so that i supose it something! There would have been no point in sending off the dodgy one as they wouldn't have accepted it. It's just another thing to slow down this whole snails paced process. The Dr did say that although the infection is easlily cured the immigration Auth would want proof of this. So i imagine that once you've had you op and you fit at a fiddle you can get on with it all. Just think of it as a little hurdle. You will get there in the end!!!

Crikey!! Thats made me feel better about things.. My 13 year old is epileptic for 2 years and has been under control for about 6 months or so now. We've frontloaded our meds although myself and my son have had to have follow up specialist reports, myself for migraine and apparently, his hearing isnt al it should be (?)

The biggest thing we've worried about is the fact that he's epileptic so hearing that you got thru everything ok, gives me a sense of relief at least!!
