      Activating Your Visa

      Hi All

Did not realise until I just read one of the other threads that the Visa once received is activated since the date of the med/police check which ever one you had first ...

      so

How long do you then have until you need to activate the Visa? I thought it was a year and now I got this feeling it could be 6 months. Can anyone help please

      Thanks so much
      Regards

p.s. Havent got the Visa yet and still hoping and praying that we do get it !

hi can i ask, when do you brave it and put up the house for sale, i know this sounds dum, but do you do after your meds are finalised or after your visa, i mean if the clock is ticking after meds when do you panic?????????? also ive been told you have to book your dogs in quari at least 5 months before your due to go, hmmm how when you have no idea? is it true you have to start the whole jig again if your over go over the year? wow the stress levels are good arn't they!

But in saying that, it's only the main applicant that needs to activate the visa, so if the worst came to the worst, they could go out on a flying visit, so to speak...... and then you have a total of 5 years to all get there, (i think that's right)

I thought everybody had to enter at the same time?

what if my worst case scenario comes true and my kids decide they are not ready to make the move just yet?

Could hubby and I go for a short holiday to validate, move on out when the house is sold and then the kids can arrive any time up to the 5 year deadline?

      Hi all

The rule is that *normally* the visa has to be validated (ie activated) within 12 months of the earlier of the PCCs or the Meds. However, if anything unusual shows up on the chest x-ray, the Medical Officer of the Commonwealth sometimes insists on a second chest x-ray bein done within about 7 or 8 months of the first one. The second chest x-ray has to be done in Australia. In this event, the MOC will reduce the time allowed for making the Initial Entry to Oz to six months from the date of the original meds rather than the usual 12.

When the visas is granted, the grant letter states that everyone included i the grant must enter Australia on or before dd/mm/yyyy.

If that date is still comfortably far in the future, there is no reason why the main visa holder cannot travel to Oz before the rest of the family. However, they must all travel to Oz and they must all do so by dd/mm/yyy as per the grant letter.

A further rule is that the secondary visa holders cannot make their Initial Entry to Oz in advance of the main visa holder doing so. This is not a problem if the whole family travels together.

I've no idea why they have all these pettifogging rules, but there it is.....

      Cheers

      Gill

PS: My mother was 86 before she made her Initial Entrry to Oz on her Contributory Parent visa. By then, she had been a widow for 16 years. She had been married to Dad for nearly 50 years before that. Yet her grant letter said solemnly, "Holder must not marry before entering Australia." Presumably she is now free to pick up and marry any old bogan geriatric whom she stumbles across.... The mind boggles...
